The Patriot Post® · NJ Islamist Wins Democrat Primary
This year marks an important anniversary, but it’s not the one you’re thinking of.
Twenty years ago, Canadian columnist and cultural critic Mark Steyn wrote a brave, prescient, and cautionary book about the coming Muslim conquest of the West not with their arms but with the wombs of their women. Steyn’s premise in America Alone was simple: Westerners aren’t keeping up with the Muslim hordes when it comes to procreation, and the future that no one wants to talk about isn’t so much a matter of opinion as it is grim and simple math.
At the time of its publication, Steyn’s book was largely denounced and dismissed on the Left as a prolonged and thinly disguised racist screed, but he argued within it that race really has nothing to do with it. Instead, it’s a matter of culture. He wrote:
If 100 percent of your population believes in liberal pluralist democracy, it doesn’t matter whether 70 percent of them are “white” or only five percent are. But if one part of your population believes in liberal pluralist democracy and the other doesn’t, then it becomes a matter of great importance whether the part that does is 90 percent of the population or only 60 percent, or 50, or 45 percent.
Since its publication, Steyn’s dystopian future has come to a theater near you — specifically to the Detroit suburb of Dearborn, whose population is around 110,000 and is now somewhere north of 55% Arab-American and counting. Indeed, Dearborn now has the greatest concentration of Arab-ancestral people outside the Middle East.
I can practically hear you saying, Yeah, yeah, that’s Michigan. But Michigan ain’t Texas. To which I would respond: Uh-huh.
I mention all this because, as I noted yesterday, the most awful surprise of Tuesday’s primaries came out of New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District, where Adam Hamawy, a man with ties to both al Qaeda and the infamous Blind Sheikh, Omar Abdel Rahman, won the Democrat primary there. And thus, a man who served as a defense witness in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing became a virtual lock to be our nation’s next congressman from that heavily Democrat district.
What would the six people who were murdered in that 1993 attack think? What would all 2,977 people who were murdered at that same spot eight years later think?
To be fair to Hamawy, he once served as a combat surgeon in the U.S. Army. On the other hand, Nidal Hasan also served as a doctor in the U.S. Army when he murdered 14 Americans, including a preborn baby, and wounded 30 others at Fort Hood on November 5, 2009. How soon we forget.
This isn’t to equate Hamawy to Hasan, but the common thread — Islam, the so-called religion of peace — is inescapable. And Hamawy isn’t exactly repenting for his past material support for al Qaeda and his past support for jihad in Bosnia. As National Review’s Noah Rothman points out:
Lest anyone conclude that Hamawy’s dalliance with Islamist terrorism was a youthful indiscretion, he defended [Omar Abdel] Rahman in a recent interview with the New York Times even as he condemned “violent rhetoric and actions.”
“He wasn’t preaching death and destruction all the time,” Hamawy said of Rahman. “He had certain views that he spoke in certain forums, but that’s not what he did every single day.” It’s nice to know that the man partly responsible for six American deaths also had other interests.
What is it with the Democrat Party and its fondness for Muslims? Back in Michigan, Dearborn’s own Abdul El-Sayed might well become our nation’s first Muslim U.S. senator, even as he refuses to even talk about current events such as the American strike that greased Iran’s supreme leader, that bankroller of decades of international terrorism, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Perhaps it’s because El-Sayed, himself an adherent of Shia Islam, is sympathetic to the Shia Iranian regime’s cause. Perhaps it’s because he’s deftly applying one of the precepts of Shiite Islam, taqiyya— in other words, lying to and misleading the unbelievers, the infidels, in order to conceal his true intentions and advance the cause of Islam. Perhaps.
In an detailed piece on Hamawy’s terrorist-sympathizing past, NR’s Andrew McCarthy, who led the terrorism prosecution of the Blind Sheikh in 1995, summed up Hamawy this way: “It is unsurprising to learn that a sympathizer and follower of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman would travel to Bosnia to lend medical assistance during an active jihadist conflict. Nor is it mysterious why so many of what our government describes as ‘charitable fronts'… were found to be supporting jihadists. In Islam, such support is not deceptive 'front’ activity; it is zakat as classically understood.”
And what is zakat, you ask? It’s the Islamic obligation to support jihad, and thus to support jihadist fighters around the world with money, arms, and humanitarian assistance. Thus, Hamawy’s qualifications to be a Democrat congressman seem beyond reproach.
Once again, it seems, we’re getting the government we deserve.
