Queens mosque leader Maulama Akonjee and his companion Thara Uddin were executed in broad daylight Saturday in New York. A double murder in the nation’s largest city might not normally make headlines, but Mayor Bill de Blasio attempted to milk it for any “hate crime” potential. “While we do not yet know the motivation for the murders,” de Blasio said, “we do know that our Muslim communities are in the perpetual crosshairs of bigotry.” Undoubtedly de Blasio had hoped the assault might be classified as a Christian-on-Islamic religious hate crime. However, police detained the suspected killer Sunday night, a Hispanic male, and believe he was settling a score in ongoing culture conflicts between urban Muslim and Hispanic groups. Perhaps de Blasio can classify the assailant as “white Hispanic” as Democrats did in the Zimmerman/Martin Leftmedia circus.

As for the perpetual crosshairs of bigotry, some Muslims certainly claim victim status. “We think it’s a hate crime,” said one local Muslim. “All this Donald Trump … we have been dealing with a lot of hatred lately.” Yet it is radical Islamists who always have non-Muslims and insufficiently radical Muslims in those crosshairs. The neighborhood where this murder occurred is just a few miles from the World Trade Center site, where nearly 3,000 innocents were in the crosshairs of jihadis. And numerous mass-casualty attacks nationwide have been perpetrated by radical Islamists targeting “infidels,” not Americans targeting peaceful Muslims. The irony of the assertion that Trump is to blame, is that if Trump was president, illegal hispanic immigrants would be deported before committing capital crimes.
