The Patriot Post® · Biden Once Again Blows Off the Border
Maybe Joe Biden will visit the border someday — you know, when there aren’t “more important” things to do.
But who are we kidding? The border hasn’t been a matter of even passing importance to this so-called commander-in-chief since he took office.
How times have changed. Back before he took office, when Donald Trump was still president, Candidate Joe couldn’t stop running his ice cream eater about how awful things were down there. Back then, as Fox News noted, “Biden described ‘horrifying scenes’ at the U.S. southern border of ‘kids being kept in cages’ and federal agents ‘ripping children from their mothers’ arms.‘”
Yesterday, Biden traveled to Phoenix, to within 100 miles of our nation’s southern border, to celebrate progress on a Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer’s new production facility. But that’s as close as he got.
Our 80-year-old president may not have visited the border, but he has made 59 critical trips back home to Delaware. So there’s that. Apparently, his weekends in Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach are more important than the millions of illegals who’ve streamed across our southern border on his watch; more important than all those who’ve perished along the way; more important than the drug smuggling and the hundreds of Americans overdosing on fentanyl every day; more important than the rampant sexual trafficking of young girls at the hands of ruthless coyotes.
When it comes to border security, elections have consequences. Especially rigged ones.
“Nothing is more important than the safety and security of the American people,” said National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd, “but to President Biden it is an afterthought. With a record number of people and drugs, including deadly fentanyl, crossing our border illegally and evading apprehension, it is apparent Biden cares more about politics than our children, friends and neighbors. Biden’s record clearly proves he cares about politics, not about doing his job of protecting American lives.”
Elsewhere in matters of illegal immigration, our elected representatives appear ready to trade border security — wink, wink — for citizenship for perhaps millions of illegals who came here as children. As the Wall Street Journal editorial page editors giddily opine:
GOP Sen. Thom Tillis and Democrat Kyrsten Sinema are negotiating an immigration compromise they hope to pass before the 117th Congress adjourns. The deal includes a path to citizenship for so-called Dreamers who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children. It also includes a one-year extension of Title 42, which makes it easier to remove illegal border crossers. The plan would provide up to $40 billion to fund border security and reduce the backlog of asylum claimants.
The Journal’s editors are solidly conservative on many matters, but not immigration. On this crucial matter of national security and national identity, they’re little more than cheap-labor lackeys for the Chamber of Commerce.
To this eleventh-hour “deal” we say: Don’t just do something; stand there. Joe Biden and his fellow Democrats haven’t earned an ounce of trustworthiness on matters of border security.
Border security expert Laura Ries has it exactly right: “Amnesty rewards law-breaking, and even just considering amnesty proposals further undermines border security. Given the national security and personal safety threats already created by the Biden administration’s open-border policies, the only immigration legislation Congress should be passing is a border security bill.”
“What is happening at the border is exactly what [Joe Biden] wants,” said the members of the Border Patrol Union, “rampant lawlessness along with a new all-time record for escapes in November. To him, that’s a win-win.”
Indeed. And to we, the American people, it’s a lose-lose.
UPDATE: We can now add yet another casualty to the awful toll of Joe Biden’s open-borders policy. As Fox News reports, “A border patrol agent was killed in a high-speed chase with a group of illegal immigrants in Texas on Wednesday. The agent leaves behind two children, but has not been identified.”
