Thursday Column
Always Faithful -- and Grateful!
Thank God for Patriot Brothers and Sisters

"May the father of all mercies scatter light, and not darkness, upon our paths." --George Washington (1790)
In the winter season, our East Tennessee mountaintop is sometimes shrouded in clouds that settle in for days, and that fog can persist for a week or more. The absence of sun and blue sky, or crisp and clear nights under bright stars, can take its toll on the spirit. However, my spirit is lifted high when I recall with certainty that above the fog and clouds, all the heavenly bodies shine bright. Eventually the weather will break and light will avail itself again.
I reminded my children that bleak winter weather obscuring the sunlight is an apt metaphor for the trials in our life, which can obscure the Son light.
Life itself can, at times, seem shrouded in fog and darkness. That is especially true if, like me, you bear a lifelong burden to support and defend our heritage of Liberty, which is now being assailed from many sectors. But our Creator, who irrevocably endowed us with Liberty, is always there, even if temporarily obscured by the fog of conflict.
I hold close these words from George Washington written early in the first American Revolution: "We should never despair, our Situation before has been unpromising and has changed for the better, so I trust, it will again. If new difficulties arise, we must only put forth new Exertions and proportion our Efforts to the exigency of the times."
These are difficult times for Patriots -- as in times past. We face daunting challenges from enemies foreign and domestic.
Occasionally I forget that this burden I bear on behalf of Liberty is also borne by tens of millions of fellow Patriots. Let us pause to remember who we are -- and the countrymen who stand with us.
We are American Patriots, defenders of First Principles and Rule of Law.
We are Sons and Daughters of Liberty -- Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen and public servants standing in harm's way at home and around the world, who are loyal, first and foremost, to our revered oath to "support and defend" our authentic Constitution, not the so-called "living constitution" espoused by cadres of statists.
We are grassroots leaders and local, state and national officeholders who, likewise, honor our sacred oath.
We are mothers, fathers and other family members nurturing the next generation of young Patriots. We are farmers, craftsmen, tradesmen and industrial producers. We are small business owners, service providers and professionals in medicine and law. We are employees and employers. We are in ministry at home and missionaries abroad. We are students and professors at colleges and universities, often standing alone for what is good and right.
We are Patriot sons and daughters from all walks of life, heirs to the blessings of Liberty bequeathed to us at great personal cost by our Patriot forebears, confirmed in the opinion that it is our duty to God and Country to extend that blessing to our posterity, and avowed upon our sacred honor to that end. We are vigilant, strong, prepared and faithful.
We are not defined by race, creed, ethnicity, religion, wealth, education, geography or political affiliation, but by our devotion to our Creator, and the Liberty He has entrusted to us, one and all.
Patriots, in keeping with the Spirit of this Christmas season, I invite you to visit our Patriot Christmas page, which provides some insight on the history and current context for the celebration of Christmas.
It is my fervent prayer that on this and every day of the year, we turn to the Light of our Creator for wisdom and peace. Remember that attitude is a reflection of gratitude -- a grateful heart leads to a joyful spirit!
And in this last 2012 column from this humble Patriot, you note that before attaching my signature to any essay, letter or e-mail, I close with a few words in Latin -- words that summarize my life's mission:
Pro Deo et Constitutione -- Libertas aut Mors
Semper Fortis Vigilate Paratus et Fidelis
To these I must add "et Gratus" -- and Grateful. I am eternally grateful to God for all His provisions, and that includes YOU, our Patriot countrymen.
Have a Merry Christmas and may God's light shine bright upon you, your family and our great nation in the coming year!

To borrow a motto from the Coasties "Semper Paratus", or my personal favorite, especially in the light of all the talk of Gun Control now - "Molon Labe".
Like Thomas Jefferson said "Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God." Merry Christmas to all!

i cannot begin to describe the pleasure i find by reading from this web-site. ALWAYES a delight, even when the news is bad. the delight comes from the apparent fact that those that are responsible for its content are honest God fearing patriotic AMERICANS with a sence of integrity. Rare for/in todays american life.

Sounding more and more like church every day. Very bad. Your constant interjecting of your superstitions and mythology into a website about American patriotism severely dilutes your message and damages your credibility among rational thinkers.

@Marc - Dude, in view of the season, how about having a little charity and let the man speak as he wishes. If you're offended by it, take advantage of another great freedom you have in this country - DON'T READ IT. I spent 20 years in the service defending your right to believe as you want to, I also did it for his right to speak as he wishes to. BTW since he is the Big Kahuna here, you might just want to rethink your stance of coming on here trying to chastise him for his beliefs.

Ditto to the Son of Liberty. If you don't like what's being said here, feel free to go somewhere else.

As Voltaire once said, "I may not like what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it". My addition is you show us the same courtesy. That is what is expected of rational people. There are a bunch of veterans on the website that have been to 3rd world countries. We know why libtardia is bad for USA's future and a smaller government is better. I do not consider you a rational thinker because most of your post use words like believe, think and feel. The conservatives use words like, the facts show, I know from first hand knowledge and quoting what the founding fathers wrote in the proper context. I hope all Christians on this site continue to pray for Marc.

Marc's wrong, Mark. Rather than damaging your credibility, it enhances the Patriot Post's value to know that by God's mercy and grace that you are among the brethren that have been led to know Him.

Marc in Atlanta--our forefathers began ALL of their meetings with a prayer. All these years we were doing fine until when? Basicly when, through no fault of ours, we couldn't say a prayer in school or the football field. Not only are we Patriots tired of being put down by the liberal socialist democrats but we Christians are tired of the attacks on our beliefs. So, don't pray and/or don't read about God. It is just that simple. Keep up the great work Mark. God Bless you and your staff. Merry Christmas to all.

Sorry folks, but that's how I see it. I'm not challenging the right for TPP to say whatever they want. But, I, and others, come to TPP for words of wisdom about American patriotism, not to be preached to about Christianity. There are countless websites, blogs, books, music, prayer groups, and churches for spreading the gospel. American patriots include Jews, Muslims, atheists, agnostics, Buddhists, Christians, wiccans, Hindus, and more. By conflating American patriotism with Christianity, you are muddying the waters about the topic of TPP (presumably, the Patriot Post is a forum about American patriotism). Again, I don't challenge TPP's right to write whatever they want. But I am advising that the Christian preaching drifts off topic, is not what many come here for, and is best left for the plethora of other forums dedicated to that topic.

Another liberal cabal word, ".is not what many come here for...", If it were the "many" you are describing, when is it just you that is saying anything. So far out of the number that are on here, you (just one) is the only one not saying Merry Christmas, or for God's Glory. So the many that understand and know, that it is through God's Grace that we live. By God's guidance, our founding fathers' wrote about individual responsibility and small government. By what I see on this board, you are part of the few. As part of the few you fall into the category of majority rule and the minority protected. Other words, you can say what you want, but we get to as well. If you do not like it, be ready for the counter-idea. It is not Christian preaching, it is the majority on this board that understand that the founding of the country and Christianity are intertwined. The minority (you) do not seem to understand that.

I understand full well that we (the US) are a constitutional republic, not the mob rule of democracy. But, TPP clearly has a majority Christian readership, and, as a private entity, can espouse any view or belief system they so chose. I have no power of censorship here. What I am exercising is my ability (subject to potential TPP censorship, but hopefully not) to express my opinion. I believe the religious preaching is better suited to other forums. And I do say Merry Christmas. Just like I say Happy Halloween, but don't believe in ghosts. Merry Christmas!

Respect our right to say and believe what how we do without slamming us as superstitious. If we were Muslims and not Christians we would be hunting you down. Fortunately you have only offended Christians who will love and forgive trespasses against us.

Marc - heres a thought! How about you not coming on here and trying to foist your views about the Christian religion on anyone. Like the cops when they read you your Miranda rights " You have the right to remain silent, and anything you say can and will be used against you on this forum." And as far as the rest of your screed goes, say what? We're all pretty tolerant and we love this Country deeply, a few things we don't tolerate is someone coming here and trying to tell us what to say. That is a typical liberal response to everything "Do as I say, or your a racist, homophobe, bible-thumping, moron who clings to their guns and religion." After the crap I've heard from the left this past week, I'm more than ready for when the "ball opens" and it becomes time to rock and roll. Please, stop spouting your atheist views and respect our 1st Amendment rights. I read on here a quote someone made by Voltaire. I have a little different spin on that ... it goes like this - "You may not always agree with what I have to say, but I'll defend to your death my right to say it." ;^)

Ridiculous comments. How about please stop spouting your Christian views and respect us atheists' First Amendment rights? I find it revealing that atheists are always the ones engaging in the debate about religious beliefs and Christians are always the ones trying to stifle and censor. Perhaps you recognize the weakness, illogic, and outright silliness of your beliefs?
As a regular reader of TPP I will feel as free as any other reader to offer my opinions, in spite of some of the Christian commenters' attempts to make me feel like an outsider at some exclusionary Christian club.
I stand by my original opinion. TPP is a forum on American patriotism. Discussing the Second Amendment is apropos. Blasting Obamacare fits the bill. Questioning the mishandling of Benghazi, yep. Discussing religion's role in politics, sure. Advocating fiscal responsibility, of course. Providing a sermon about zombies who walk on water and rise from the dead - as dopey as claiming that each year the Great Pumpkin chooses the most sincere pumpkin patch. It's your right to believe whatever foolishness you choose, but, preaching it here is off topic and diminishes the credibility of TPP.

So by your asking us to "stop spouting our Christian views" you are not censuring us? And how is telling The Patriot Post what it can and cannot do a recognition of its right to be the publication it chooses to be? Isn't this the same as forcing, say, a Christian business to provide contraception? You have the freedom to go somewhere else if you don't like this newsletter, not to ask it and everybody here to change to suit your views. And it goes the same for all the other you were talking about, Muslims, etc. A true, freedom loving patriot wouldn't have any issues with the Christian stance of Mark Alexander and the regulars here. Only an arrogant statist wants to tell others how and what to think, and how to conduct their business. We are not forcing you to believe, why do you want to force us to "hide our light under a bushel" to accommodate you?

If you are a defender of Liberty then you know that, as you have the liberty to not like Mark Alexander's message, he also has the liberty to express it. It is, after all, his publication. If you don't like it, you know what you should do. Better yet, start your own, atheistic e-newsletter, why don't you? Merry Chrismas to you and yours!

Mark; you continue to remain strong in presenting what our founders believed and lived. God was in their everyday life. They expressed in their writings, spoke word and beliefs. The rights of the people come from GOD and not from people. We the people support limited government. Because our founders' were so well read, that they understood hoow a strong central government can rule = destroy. GOD BLESS EVERYONE THAT READS YOUR POST AND KEEP YOU IN HIS SPIRIT AND FOR GOD'S GLORY.
