Democracy-Defying Texas Democrats Face Arrest

Governor Abbott keeps the pressure on state Democrat lawmakers to show up for work or be arrested.

Arrest warrants were issued by Republican Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan for 52 Texas Democrat lawmakers who fled the state last month in their effort to prevent the state’s democratic process from occurring. The majority of these Democrats, who fled to Washington, DC — some of them with COVID — have continued to remain out of state in their democracy-defying effort to prevent the passage of a Republican-created election integrity bill.

These Democrats know they cannot prevent the passage of the new election integrity legislation, so they have tellingly and ironically decided to fight against the democratic process itself — the very process supposedly championed by their party name. (We’re a republic, of course, but stick with us.) Perhaps they should be dubbed the “Resistocrats,” as that moniker more accurately describes their political identity. Rather than faithfully represent their constituents who elected them, they went MIA, while at the same time disingenuously portraying themselves as both victims and social justice warriors. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Thankfully, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has steadfastly refused to cede any ground to these democracy-denying Democrats, calling for special sessions and threatening to have these duty-shirking lawmakers arrested upon their return to Texas. The threat was briefly undermined by a judge, but now rectified by the Texas Supreme Court’s ruling that the arrest warrants are constitutional.

One of the more vocal anti-democracy Democrat lawmakers, state Representative Ron Reynolds, apparently believes the Texas state House to be a “jail.” Upon returning to Texas, these Democrats “would be going to a jail — we would be going to the House chambers where they would basically be forcing a quorum,” he asserted. “They would take us against our will to the House floor.”

Yeah, forced to do the job they were elected to do. Oh, the humanity!

The fact of the matter is that these Democrats have abandoned their state and abandoned their duty to represent their constituents, all in effort to promote the leftist agenda of the Washington establishment class and an administration dead set on eliminating any real distinction between citizen and alien. These Democrats refuse to prioritize the legitimate concerns and welfare of the citizens of Texas and have sided with Joe Biden’s election-undermining, open-borders malfeasance.

Following the ruling, Abbott spokesman Renae Eze stated: “The Supreme Court of Texas swiftly rejected this dangerous attempt by Texas Democrats to undermine our Constitution and avoid doing the job they were elected to do. We look forward to the Supreme Court upholding the rule of law and stopping another stall tactic by the Texas Democrats.”

Election integrity matters to those who actually believe in maintaining a fair and just democratic process, a process that these Texas Democrats clearly want nothing to do with unless it results in them getting their way. Hopefully, their constituents will responded by voting these anti-democracy Democrats out of office.
