When we animals are repeatedly exposed to a stimulus, we become desensitized to it. And so it goes with the calamitous state of affairs on our southern border. Our repeated exposure to Joe Biden’s intentional illegal immigration disaster renders us less and less enraged and more and more apathetic.

This is unfortunate, too, because shoulder-shrugging apathy murders great civilizations just as surely as the Juice murdered Ron and Nicole the Biden Crime Family murders standards of human decency.

Yesterday, we learned that Team Biden had reached a new milestone, shattering the two million barrier for arrests along our southern border during just the past 11 months. As The Washington Post reports:

In August, U.S. Customs and Border Protection detained 203,598 migrants crossing from Mexico, the latest figures show, putting authorities on pace to tally more than 2.3 million arrests during the government’s 2022 fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30. The total, which includes some people apprehended more than once, far exceeds last year’s record of more than 1.7 million arrests.

The historic migration wave this year has been driven by soaring numbers of border-crossers from outside Mexico and Central America, the two largest traditional sources of illegal entries. Migrants from Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba accounted for more than one-third of those taken into custody along the southern border last month, according to Customs and Border Protection, a 175 percent increase over August 2021.

Here, we can’t help but put a new twist on an old quote from Illinois Republican Senator Everett Dirksen: A million here, a million there, and pretty soon we’re talking about real people.

As for real people, perhaps the most disgracefully overlooked statistic of Biden’s open borders is this one: 700. That’s the number, near as we can tell, of men, women, and children who’ve died trying to take up Biden on his invitation to ignore our immigration laws, to leave their native countries, and to invade ours.

And now 700 of them are dead. Where’s the media? Where’s the outrage?

Remember: When a Republican president puts America First by announcing and enforcing a zero-tolerance policy toward illegal immigrants, folks stop trying to illegally immigrate. That’s human nature, and that’s what happened during Donald Trump’s four years in office. But when Biden said during a nationally televised Democrat presidential debate in 2019 that “all those people who are seeking asylum” should “immediately surge to the border,” well, folks paid attention there, too. And they’ve been surging to our southern border ever since.

So much for the solemn oath old Scranton Joe took on January 20, 2021, to “faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States” and, to the best of his ability, “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

One chief executive who seems to have taken his oath of office seriously, though, is the governor of The Free State of Florida, Ron DeSantis, who has brilliantly enraged the Left elite by giving them a taste of their own medicine. Yesterday, DeSantis spoke to Fox News’s Sean Hannity about the faux outrage:

Well, Sean, it’s really frustrating. Because you know, you’ve been covering this. Millions of people since Biden has been president illegally coming across the southern border. Did they freak out about that? No. You had migrants die in the Rio Grande, you had 50 die in Texas in a trailer because they were being neglected. Was there a freak-out about that? No, there wasn’t. You’ve had criminal aliens get across that southern border and victimize Americans, killing some and raping some. Was there any type of outrage about that? No.

And then of course we know fentanyl deaths are at an all-time high. Where’s that fentanyl coming from? It’s coming over the open southern border. It’s only when 50 get put into Martha’s Vineyard — which wasn’t saying they didn’t want this. They said they were a sanctuary jurisdiction. These are people who were basically destitute and put in a situation where they could have succeeded, but that was all virtue signaling and not only did they not welcome them, they deported them the next day with the National Guard. Give me a break.

We’ll close with a correction that The Washington Post and other mainstream media organs would do well to note: 2.1 million illegals have indeed been documented and released. But DHS officially estimates there were more than 900,000 “known gotaways” above and beyond that 2.1 million. So the real cost of Joe Biden’s border malfeasance isn’t two million. It’s three million.

And counting.
