Ronald Reagan's Birthday

February 6, 2013, marks the 102nd anniversary of President Ronald Wilson Reagan's birthday, or as he would have phrased it, the 63rd anniversary of his 39th birthday.
Either way, we are grateful beyond measure for his great service to our country, the shining city on a hill, and his steadfast devotion to Essential Liberty.
Reagan both understood the roots of tyranny in the absence of serving anything higher than self and devoted his presidency to fighting it. "Evil is powerless if the good are unafraid. That's why the Marxist vision of man without God must eventually be seen as an empty and a false faith -- the second oldest in the world -- first proclaimed in the Garden of Eden with whispered words ... 'Ye shall be as gods.' The crisis of the Western world ... exists to the degree in which it is indifferent to God. ... I have seen the rise of fascism and communism. Both philosophies glorify the arbitrary power of the state. ... But both theories fail. Both deny those God-given liberties that are the inalienable right of each person on this planet, indeed, they deny the existence of God."
He also understood and honored the source of American Liberty. "Our liberty springs from and depends upon an abiding faith in God. ... Without God there is no virtue because there is no prompting of the conscience. ... Without God there is a coarsening of the society. Without God democracy will not and cannot long endure. ... America needs God more than God needs America. If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a Nation gone under."

I was unimpressed with Ronald Reagan when I was a young impressionable fellow who listened to the rhetoric of my beloved, Berkley educated, grandmother. As soon as I began to read about him for myself and discover the wealth of insight and principles he possessed, I developed a respect and fondness for him that continues to grow. I proudly voted for him twice and as more about him is published, the more I am convinced that he was a truly great President.

I am reading a book about President Reagan written be Martin Anderson and Annelise Anderson titled: Reagan's Secret War. It is about his fight to save the world from Nuclear disaster. It goes back into his past to understand how he came to where he stood on the need to ban Nuclear weapons. He quickly realized that the only way to bring the Russians to the negotiating table was to bankrupt their economy by strengthening our military. Great read about a true American patriot.

It's pretty enlightening! Slams the door on the notion that there is any comparison between Reagan and our current president.

My chest swells with pride when I read tributes to the greatest President of my lifetime. Unfortunately, our country has lost sight of that "city on the hill" that he guided us toward during his time. I pray for another with his great insight to come and renew the trip toward that wonderful goal and get us out of the terrible tailspin we have been in for theses last several years. Thank you Mr. Reagan!

Ronald Reagan will always hold a special place in my heart. He was in fact the first president I had voted for (1984 first election I was old enough to vote), and no doubt the greatest. I proudly pulled the lever for him and never regretted it. He made me proud that I voted for him. He was a great president, and patriot. He sure is missed.

What a wonderful man. He may have been an actor, but he was definitely a great President. His ability to inspire the nation to his vision of liberty for all men through through meaningful work and contribution to society - rebuilding the economic engine which had been flooded-out by government programs and regulation of the producers -- that ability to bring out the American spirit in us all- made him the Greatest President.
By contrast, we now have an actor as President. He is playing the part of an American, but in a story that he wrote - leading to the destruction of the America that he blames for all the problems of the world. Obama plays the part of concerned President to distract the audience into the false promises of social justice and class warfare, while he continues to drive the nation into mediocrity. He is loking for his next part - as U.N. Gen Secretary ( no problem, he can change the rules and make it so ) from which he will simply declare himself to be the Esteemed Leader of the World For Life.
