The Patriot Post® · The Demos' Disturbing Platner Problem
“Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect every one who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.” —Patrick Henry (1788)
In this year, as we prepare to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, astute observer Victor Davis Hanson noted regarding the rise of Demo crazies, “Radical, self-described communist Maine senatorial candidate Graham Platner attended one of the most elite and expensive prep schools in the United States.” Of course, that might be precisely the indoctrination he received. Hanson says these cadres of crazies “are systematically destroying the legacy of the Democratic Party. And why not?”
Answer: “Their model is not the American Founding, but the radical mandated equality — and violence — of the French Revolution.”
Platner, a “white-privileged leftist,” attended the elite Hotchkiss School in Connecticut, and then John Bapst Memorial High School in Maine, where his yearbook notes that he was “most likely to start a revolution.” He didn’t make it to college after graduation in 2003. Despite protesting Operation Iraqi Freedom, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served for eight years, including three combat tours. He later said, “I thought I could do some good, and I wanted to play soldier.” He later enlisted in the Maryland Army National Guard and did an additional combat tour during Operation Enduring Freedom.
In 2016, he returned to Maine for post-traumatic stress disorder treatment, but that apparently did not resolve his issues, which I suspect long preceded his military service. He then went back to Afghanistan as a private security contractor, but he returned to Maine shortly thereafter. He and a partner then took over a Maine oyster-harvesting company in Sullivan, which he still runs today.
The fact is, I feel some compassion for Platner. He is mentally ill, and part of that illness is related to PTSD. And when you mix some PTS with unbridled narcissism, you get … a Demo Party candidate with an SS NAZI tattoo.
We have run analysis on Platner previously.
Eight months ago, before he displaced popular Maine Governor Janet Mills as the Demo nominee for the U.S. Senate, our Nate Jackson profiled Platner:
When you don’t rein in the most radical voices, you also end up with Senate candidates who have literal Nazi death tattoos, like Democrat Graham Platner in Maine. “I am not a secret Nazi,” Platner protested in a sentence no one ever wants to hear a candidate feel compelled to utter. And what — he’s not a Nazi, or it’s not a secret?
He’s on the record claiming he is an “antifa supersoldier,” asking why black people “don’t tip” at restaurants, asserting “cops are bastards, all of them,” blaming rape victims for their own assault, and declaring himself a “communist.” His defense? He was drunk when he said those things. As for the tattoo, Platner says he didn’t know what it meant, but even his former campaign manager is calling BS on that one. Genevieve McDonald resigned from his campaign last week over the aforementioned off-color comments, and she said Platner is “a history buff” who “knows damn well what [the tattoo] means.” To that end, Platner previously called his SS death’s head tattoo, “my Totenkopf.” …
[Bernie Sanders] endorsed Platner and is standing by him in the wake of all the controversy. “I personally think he is an excellent candidate,” Sanders said this week. Asked about the Nazi tattoo, the Soviet-loving socialist blustered about the “corrupt campaign finance system” and how “we don’t have enough candidates in this country that will take on the powers that be and fight for the working class.”
Since then, more key people have abandoned his campaign.
McDonald’s resignation was followed by campaign manager Kevin Brown, then his campaign finance director, Ronald Holmes, and then his treasurer, Victoria Perrone. He has since hired socialist Ben Chin, formerly with Maine People’s Alliance, as his new campaign manager.
Despite a growing record of his disqualifying comments and assertions, Platner has become the Maine Man.
He previously said he was aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America, was “pretty radically left,” and was a “vegetable growing, psychedelics taking socialist.” He has become a card-carrying Commie member of Sanders’s “Fight the Oligarchy” clown show.
He jokes that rape victims should have worn “Kevlar panties.” He compared “Latin American hookers” with Thai prostitutes and insists that men should be able to cheat on their women while out of the country.
Responding to the claim that white people aren’t racists and stupid, he insisted about his own neighbors, “Living in white rural America, I’m afraid to tell you they actually are.”
He has advocated for political violence, writing, “Fight until you get tired of fighting with words and then fight with signs, and fists, and guns if need be,” and “an armed working class is a requirement for economic justice.”
Of his “defund the police” agenda, he has rallied against cops, declaring “F*** these cops,” and “Cops are bastards. … All of them, in fact.”
Earlier this month, Platner opined that his small-town police chief was “thin blue line trash” for not kneeling during a George Floyd protest.
Media analyst Tim Graham with Media Research Center notes: “Platner is a walking, talking pincushion for comedians. … [But] the Left is somehow never worthy of mockery.”
He notes further: “Time magazine just published a soft-soap cover story on Platner, furiously spinning: ‘After decades of nominating buttoned-up technocrats with glittering resumes, many Democrats want candidates with flaws, faded ink, and redemption arcs that resemble their own. Platner’s past, in other words, may actually be his path.’ The gaffes may be his ‘secret sauce,’ said one Democrat.”
For the record, the gaffes in this case occur when Platner unintentionally reveals the truth about his vile beliefs, and he is unapologetic.
Astoundingly, Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin said that Platner’s gaffes were not “disqualifying.” And Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is backing Platner.
Nor were they disqualifying when Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris deliberately derided their fellow Americans by labeling them “bitter, deplorable, racist, fascist, NAZI, misogynist, garbage.”
But Demo Rep. Jake Auchincloss in neighboring Massachusetts begs to differ: “I find that tattoo and his commentary about it to be personally disqualifying. I hope Maine voters agree with me.”
Platner is the latest iteration of Democrat Party authoritarians who now manifest as Demo Party socialists/fascists, though his adoring Leftmedia talkingheads and scribes insist his tattoo just “resembles” the SS Totenkopf.
The rise of these hate-filled leftists is a serious threat to Liberty.
But what got my attention ahead of Memorial Day this week were Platner’s disparaging comments on deceased Navy SEAL and “American Sniper” Chris Kyle, about whom I dedicated a Veterans Day Profile of Valor back in 2014. According to Platner, Kyle inflated his kill count by targeting civilians.
Chris’s widow, Taya Kyle, responded: “Nothing says, ‘I want attention’ more than disparaging a national hero who’s also dead. It is cowardly, it’s lowbrow to lie about somebody else.”
Then videos surfaced of Platner saying the Army is “full of fat, lazy trash” and actually disparaging soldier Ted Daniels, who was shot four times in combat. According to Platner: “Dumb motherf***er didn’t deserve to live. At least his stupidity and fat ass wheezing are available for all future infantrymen to witness and hold in contempt.”
Daniels responded: “I don’t want an apology, and any apology from him at this point would definitely not be sincere. What I’d really like is for [Sen.] Elizabeth Warren, [Senate Minority Leader] Chuck Schumer, [Sen.] Bernie Sanders, [House Minority Leader] Hakeem Jeffries, and everybody else on the far left to tell my children to their face that they are endorsing and supporting a man who said that their father should have not lived. Cheering on the death of their father.”
Robert O'Neill, the Navy SEAL who killed Osama bin Laden, immediately came to the defense of both Daniels and Kyle, noting: “Platner was way out of line talking about a soldier that way. This is completely barbaric.” As for insults against Kyle, O'Neill said, “That would just stem from jealousy. … I’ve seen the jealousy, too, but professional jealousy, stuff like this is really, really rare between veterans.” He added, “Platner’s obviously been picked by someone and he’s being groomed by the same group of people because you’ve seen even with the other Democrats right now, as this stuff comes out, they refuse to condemn it because they do not care about the American people. They care about votes for their party.”
Platner has refused to apologize for his comments about Daniels.
As for his political agenda if elected, Platner recently provided a glimpse into his game: “If we get the majority, then it’s committee hearings time. And we need to spend the next two years shutting down the White House because we subpoena every single person in it every single day.” He added, “I want to drag every single ICE agent that’s been wearing a mask in front of a Senate subcommittee, make them take their mask off, and explain to the American people what the hell they’ve been up to. … Organizations that are used to kidnap Americans are not organizations that should exist in the future.”
Retired Navy SEAL Bill Brown concludes: “A senator who calls soldiers ‘trash’ and mocks a man’s Purple Heart has shown who he really is. A senator votes to send soldiers to war, confirms the generals who lead them, and funds the equipment that protects them. Platner’s own words in his deleted post prove he can’t be trusted to do right by those that protect us.”
All said, Platner and his leftist cadres of “useful idiots” should not be underestimated.
He is well funded by his leftist online influencer network. He defied last year’s scandals, and he raised $4.7 million in the last quarter of 2025.
As political analyst Gary Bauer notes, “The bad news for us is that it’s not at all clear he will lose.”
The good news is that there is mounting evidence Demo voters are not as crazy as their leftist candidates.
