• Assault at Georgia Army base: A disturbed soldier opened fire at Fort Stewart in eastern Georgia on Wednesday, shooting five U.S. Army soldiers before being apprehended. All five victims were treated at the base, are in stable condition, and are expected to recover. The suspected assailant was identified as a 28-year-old automated logistics sergeant, Quornelius Radford, assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team. “Soldiers in the area that witnessed the shooting immediately and without hesitation tackled the soldier and subdued him,” Brig. Gen. John Lubas said. “That allowed law enforcement to then take him into custody.” The motivation for the horrible attack is still unknown. Lubas said the assailant used a personal handgun.

• India tariff increase: This week, President Donald Trump announced that he would raise the tariffs on India 25% more, in addition to the 25% reciprocal tariff he imposed last week. Trump says the increase is due to India’s continuing purchase of large amounts of Russian oil, which is one of the main sources of income believed to be fueling the Russian war machine in Ukraine. India responded that its purchases were necessary for economic security, but Trump has suggested that some of the oil is being resold on the open market.

• A Trump-Putin rendezvous? Vladimir Putin proposed a possible meeting with Donald Trump during a meeting with special envoy Steve Witcoff on Wednesday. That same day, Trump told European leaders that he plans to meet with Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky next week and hopes to reach a peace deal. Trump stated that he only wanted the three of them at the summit — no European leaders. “Great progress was made!” he posted on Truth Social. “Afterwards, I updated some of our European Allies. Everyone agrees this War must come to a close, and we will work towards that in the days and weeks to come.” Trump surely is aware of another stall tactic on Putin’s part to push back on the deadline Trump imposed and on his threat of secondary tariffs, which would severely punish Putin’s expansion project.

• Trump vs. Apple: President Trump and Apple CEO Tim Cook announced yesterday that Apple is investing $100 billion in manufacturing in the U.S. and will boost the company’s commitment to $600 billion over the next four years. This will include a new American Manufacturing Program (AMP) that will focus on bringing more of Apple’s supply chain and advanced manufacturing here. Apple will use AMP to increase investments across the country and incentivize other global companies to manufacture critical components in America. Apple already supports more than 450,000 jobs and thousands of suppliers and partners in the United States, but reshoring some of its manufacturing will help with the Trump tariffs that added $800 million to Apple’s costs in the last quarter. Despite concerns surrounding the tariffs, the company’s quarterly revenue jumped 10% to $94 billion between April and June.

• Massachusetts police label parental rights advocates “hate group”: The Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee, which assembles the training for more than 20,000 officers statewide, is relying on the corrupt and race-baiting Southern Poverty Law Center and PBS materials to label Moms for Liberty a “hate group.” Other organizations listed alongside Moms for Liberty include antifa and neo-Nazis. The SPLC materials call the parental rights organization an “anti-government extremist” group that “propagates conspiracy theories about public schools.” A linked PBS article says Moms for Liberty “attacks inclusion in schools,” meaning the group objects to pornographic books that indoctrinate LGBTQ ideas into kids. Massachusetts views parental education rights as such a threat that it must train law enforcement to counter it.

• Babylon Bee beats Gavin Newsom: Ahead of last year’s presidential election, after an AI video of Kamala Harris went viral, California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law declaring AI-generated political content “election interference.” The law allegedly had protections for humor and satire, but as The Babylon Bee pointed out, the people judging the line between serious interference and satire are the same ones who call everything hate speech. Judge John Mendez issued a preliminary injunction on the issue in October and has now handed down his ruling siding with the plaintiffs, Elon Musk’s X and The Babylon Bee. Satire is still allowed even in California, and websites cannot be punished for hosting the content pursuant to liability protections for third-party content. Judge Mendez also struck down a California law that would put labels on digitally altered campaign materials and ads on First Amendment grounds.

• ICE’s Penske truck “Trojan horse”: On Wednesday, ICE used a Penske rental truck to conduct a raid at a Los Angeles Home Depot. Agents poured out of the back of the parked truck and chased down numerous illegal aliens, resulting in 16 arrests. The Westlake area of LA, where the raid occurred, is overrun by illegals with ties to MS-13. Penske quickly put out a statement claiming ignorance and no approval. It also stated, “Penske strictly prohibits the transportation of people in the cargo area of its vehicles under any circumstances.” Perhaps it forgot about that time when human smugglers were caught using a Penske truck to transport 58 migrants to the U.S. in 2023. There was no statement released, no outrage — just crickets.

• Indiana introduces the Speedway Slammer ICE detention facility: Florida’s Alligator Alcatraz has a new rivalry with the introduction of Indiana’s Speedway Slammer. The facility, being established in cooperation with the Indiana state government, will be built at the Miami Correctional Facility, 60 miles north of Indianapolis. Gov. Mike Braun announced that this new 1,000-bed space will be used to assist the deportations of “the worst of the worst.” Not to be outdone, Florida is gearing up to open a second detention center. Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that he is willing to use Camp Blanding for the second facility but wants to wait until Alligator Alcatraz reaches max capacity, since it has a better runway and logistics are easier with one location.
