Bring on the El-Sayed Fireworks

Abdul El-Sayed has some serious fence-mending to do among moderate Democrats, but he has no idea what’s in store for him from Mike Rogers and his fellow Republicans.

His full name is a bit of a mouthful for Western tongues, but we might as well get used to it — at least for the next 89 days: Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed.

And if you don’t like it or your Arabic inflection is a bit off, well, here’s some friendly advice from the candidate himself: “Keep the name outcher damn mouth.”

If those healing and unifying words from El-Sayed aren’t clear enough, let’s listen to a brief snippet of what his favorite 9/11 victim-blamer and Mao-worshiping toady has to say to the candidate’s fellow Democrats (WARNING: not even remotely safe for work or young ears): “Like everyone being, like, ‘Abdul has a f**k-ton of work to do mending bridges’, here’s the f**king take nuke for you: You are all unbelievably Islamophobic pieces of s**t.”

This, then, is the task that confronts the Democrat Party: It must now come together and unite behind a guy who limped home in Tuesday’s primary with less than 50% of the vote in a race he was supposed to win easily. The Democrat apparatus must now kumbaya behind the most radical Senate candidate in its history — or at least since Barack Obama — and somehow find a way to convince a majority of Michiganders to vote for Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed on November 3, thereby preventing a Republican pickup by Mike Rogers and an insurmountable five-seat deficit for retaking the U.S. Senate.

But that’s just the internecine part of the Senate race. There’s also a Republican Party that’ll be loaded for bear between now and the midterms, ready to expose an El-Sayed in ways that the legacy media has refused to do during the Democrat primary. Oh, and a Republican candidate who I suspect is disinclined to go easy on El-Sayed.

Here’s the Democrat Socialist keeping it classy with Rogers right out of the gate: “I know you’re going to say ‘No,’ because you’re a coward. Five debates. All right? … You and I both know that you will wither in front of your own crimes, but I’m gonna make sure Michiganders know about them. By the time we’re done, you are not going to have safe quarter from people holding you accountable for what you’ve done.”

El-Sayed has, for example, attacked Rogers for having — good heavens! — a vacation home in the Free State of Florida. But it turns out that El-Sayed lives in something of a glass casbah.

“If I’m the Rogers campaign,” posted conservative thinker Doug Powers on social media, “I’m putting this in an ad. ‘A socialist who owns property in Dubai and India is attacking me for having a vacation house in Florida while threatening me in my home state?’”

Another quipster put it more succinctly: “Is Dubai in Florida?”

President Donald Trump, who can get in the mud with the best of them, was even more to the point: El-Sayed is “full of s**t,” he said.

As the Washington Examiner reports, the GOP has already begun to make El-Sayed one of the national faces of the Democrat Party:

The coordinated effort is seeking to define el Sayed by tying him to some of the Left’s most polarizing figures and causes, from controversial internet personality Hasan Piker and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani to the abolish ICE movement and the Democratic Socialists of America. Republicans have also begun emphasizing his full name, Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, a tactic the nominee accused them of using to divide voters.

See? It’s not just me calling him by his whole name.

Here, I’d suggest that if you want to see “The Taranto Effect” take its toll, tune in to the sharp elbows that Rogers will no doubt throw — and to the attack ads that are sure to come from the conservative PACs and the Republican National Committee — between now and election day. As The Wall Street Journal’s James Taranto explained many years ago, the mainstream media’s failure to ask tough questions of Democrat candidates during their primaries leaves them ill-prepared for the oppo research to come during the general election.

A couple of final thoughts about El-Sayed: He wasn’t born in Kenya, but he’s a loud and proud Muslim, not merely a wishful one like Barack Hussein Obama. In addition, like Obama, he’s also a closet socialist — that is, he absolutely behaves like one, but he’s afraid to admit it for fear of alienating voters.

I say this because you might not be interested in Islam or socialism, but Islam and socialism are most definitely interested in you. And because the mainstream media will, over the next three months, go to Herculean efforts to downplay El-Sayed’s radical leftism and his Muslim faith — both of which are incompatible with our constitutional order and our liberal democratic way of life.
