The Hill published an op-ed this past weekend that sums up the disaster Democrats are facing. According to cultural and technological researcher John Mac Ghlionn:

Pew Research Center data confirms that children raised in highly religious, conservative households overwhelmingly maintain those exact beliefs into adulthood. Ideology functions like a heritable trait. When a culture passes down both its metaphysical worldview and its high-fertility habits, it unlocks exponential demographic interest. The devout always claim that Jesus saves, but in this specific instance, he also populates.

Progressive philosophies face no dramatic defeat at the ballot box. They require no cancelation by rivals and no losses in public debate. They are simply running out of citizens. A political movement that fails to reproduce automatically surrenders its institutional real estate to the descendants of the people who fill church pews instead of university lecture halls.

Setting aside the anti-Christian sentiment in this statement, his observation is correct. Democrats are not reproducing, and conservatives are.

For Democrats, the reasons vary. Left-wing women are more likely to have abortions, wait to have kids until later in life when their fertility drops, or not want kids at all. In other words, they are not interested in “giving up their freedoms” to raise the next generation.

Mac Ghlionn accurately stated, “Ideology functions like a heritable trait.” The Democrats’ heritable ideology focuses so much on the individual that personal sacrifices, like having a family and raising children, are not on their agenda.

For example, New York Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently posted a video on social media documenting her fertility journey. In the video, Ocasio-Cortez injects the drugs necessary to freeze her eggs — a deeply private action that should not be posted for clicks and views.

The 36-year-old explained that, after years of saving money, she decided to freeze her eggs to fight against the Trump administration’s fertility agenda and the pro-life movement. She admitted that her action comes from a place of privilege, which was a shame, according to her, because all women should have the option to postpone motherhood indefinitely.

Ocasio-Cortez and her fiancé have been engaged since 2022. They also live together and have a dog. Nevertheless, a child is not on her horizon. Is her rationale really Trump? If so, she is ignorant. President Trump is pro-IVF and increasingly ambivalent on abortion. His pro-IVF stance is particularly important because using a frozen egg requires in vitro fertilization; the egg will have to be artificially inseminated, then either implanted in Ocasio-Cortez’s womb or in that of a surrogate.

Her reasoning is probably far more pedestrian.

Ocasio-Cortez is a girl boss: She doesn’t want a child bogging her down if and when she attempts a presidential run. This is a naive image of what it’s like to work and have children, but it factors into her decision-making nonetheless. She is putting her career before a family. She may not even want a family; she just wants the power of choice while in her 40s.

Why is that? Well, the number of viable eggs drops after a woman’s mid-30s. Many women can have children in their 40s, but conceiving via IVF is a much riskier gamble. Based on Ocasio-Cortez’s age at retrieval, her chances of having a mature egg survive the process and end in a live birth are only 6.5%.

Whatever Ocasio-Cortez’s reasons are, they are not about potential children. They are entirely about her desire to play God because, in her worldview, she is the only important being. The individual is king; therefore, her loyalties are to herself, and society can shove it.

Her sentiments are a microcosm of the Democrats’ larger narrative. The only choices that matter to them are the ones that satisfy the needs and urges of the individual. That’s why their solutions never include personal responsibility or sacrifice. Instead, they import people from third-world countries to sustain the economic cycle (see Spain).

The Right sees it differently. We believe that family is the fundamental building block of society, that we have a duty to future generations, and that we are building something that will outlast us.

Conservatives remain steadfastly at or above replacement-level birth rates. Our hope is in the future. Perhaps some of the Democrats will see the light of this worldview before they go the way of the dinosaur.
