Costas Rips Redskins
NBC’s broadcaster calls name “insult” and “slur.”
During the “Sunday Night Football” matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins, longtime broadcaster Bob Costas aired the dirty laundry of his head once again. (Recall too his screed against guns after Sandy Hook.) This time it was on the merit of the name “Redskins” and the controversy about whether its racist. “‘Redskins’ can’t possibly honor a heritage or noble character trait, nor can it possibly be considered a neutral term,” Costas lectured. “It’s an insult, a slur, no matter how benign the present-day intent.” Then again, Costas will probably have no trouble cashing the paycheck he’ll receive for broadcasting the game.
