Ahead of the November 2026 elections, the Calvert Task Group (CTG) is connecting military service to civic duty with a new initiative: VeteransVote.us. Our message is simple yet resonant: “You kept your oath. Keep your vote.” Joining us in this noble effort are STARRS and the MacArthur Society of West Point Graduates.

The goal is strictly nonpartisan — get more veterans to the polls. Rather than pushing an ideological agenda, the site focuses on four practical steps: checking registration, locating polling places, reviewing ID rules, and voting.

But logistics are only half the battle. CTG acknowledges that while we can clear the path to the ballot box, we can’t — and shouldn’t — tell anyone how to think. Deciding which candidate or policy best serves the country involves competing priorities and tough judgment calls. That burden rests squarely on the individual.

In the military, you learn quickly that authority and accountability go hand in hand. In a democratic system, that responsibility shifts to the citizens. By anchoring our effort in the idea of “We the People,” CTG treats voting not just as a right, but as an exercise of that constitutional authority.

Time will tell if VeteransVote.us succeeds in driving up turnout. Success won’t be measured by the strength of the launch, but by whether the resources actually connect and shift behavior.

At its core, the initiative points to a timeless parallel: leadership provides the objective and the tools, but it can never replace the individual’s independent thought. The discipline, judgment, and accountability veterans practiced in service are the exact qualities needed when they step into the voting booth.

You served once. The oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States does not expire when the uniform comes off.
