Biden’s Collapse and Newsom Makes His Move
Biden’s approval is down to just 37%, and Donald Trump leads Joe Biden by 10 points.
No, the president didn’t fall down again. But if the latest Washington Post/ABC News poll is any indication, Biden is collapsing in the polls.
White House aides were no doubt reaching for the Maalox this weekend given the poll’s shocking results. Biden’s approval is down to just 37%, and Donald Trump leads Joe Biden by 10 points — 52% to 42%.
The Post did its best to bury the lead. You had to wait until the third paragraph to learn that Trump had a double-digit lead over Biden. The Post also tried to dismiss its own poll as “an outlier.”
My initial reaction was to agree that the poll likely was an outlier. But there are reasons it could be accurate. Other polls have shown Trump leading Biden. And, according to one recent survey, Trump is leading by six points in the swing states most likely to decide the election.
In addition, Biden’s age is a growing concern for many Americans. The Washington Post poll found that 74% of Americans believe Biden is too old to serve another four years.
There’s virtually nothing the White House spin doctors can do about that. Inflation might go down. Gas prices might go down. But Biden can’t get any younger.
Meanwhile, his ratings on key issues like the economy (30%) and immigration (23%) are terrible.
The election is still more than a year away, and polls are only snapshots in time. A lot can happen between now and next November. But here’s another way to look at it.
- We’re witnessing the biggest invasion of America by military-aged men in the history of the country.
- We’re struggling with sky-high inflation, crushing family budgets everywhere.
- Virtually every day, there’s another reminder that the president is not up to the demands of the job.
- Radicals in his administration are pushing the most extreme pro-abortion and pro-transgender policies imaginable, and there are growing fears we are sinking into a police state.
When you consider all these factors, the results of this latest Washington Post poll aren’t terribly surprising.
One final thought: Among “disinterested” or “unlikely voters,” folks who didn’t vote in 2020, Trump leads Biden 63% to 27%. Those results are similar to a USA Today poll earlier this month that found Trump with a huge lead among “registered but unlikely” voters.
Memo to the RNC: Do you have a plan to get these voters to the polls?
Newsom Makes His Move
California Governor Gavin Newsom stunned political observers in Sacramento and all over the country late Friday night when he vetoed a highly controversial bill. The legislation would have required state judges in custody cases to consider whether parents were “affirming” of a child’s so-called “gender identity.”
Here’s the story behind the story.
There is zero chance that Newsom is becoming a “moderate” or that he’s having second thoughts about the radical transgender agenda. This is Gavin Newsom acting like a vulture, circling Joe Biden’s political corpse.
The Washington Post poll, like virtually every other poll that has asked, found that 62% of Democrats want someone else as their party’s nominee next year.
Newsom thinks he may end up becoming the Democrat nominee, and wants to be seen as a moderate who ran a big state. His veto is about presidential politics, not the transgender issue.
Following The Money
A fourth IRS official, Darrell Waldon, told congressional investigators that U.S. Attorney David Weiss was prevented from pursuing charges against Hunter Biden in the District of Columbia and in California. Waldon’s testimony confirms statements from multiple IRS whistleblowers that the Biden Justice Department interfered in the Hunter Biden investigation.
Speaking on Fox News Sunday night, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer reiterated that his impeachment investigation is not about Hunter Biden, but Joe Biden. He said:
“We’re following the money from countries like Romania and China to the Biden shell companies… Now we’re looking at the Bidens individually… All roads lead to Joe Biden.
"From day one, this has been an investigation of Joe Biden, not his son. His son is a key, central figure because we believe Hunter was a frontman for the Biden family influence scheme.”
In a recent interview with Sean Hannity, Comer said it’s possible that we may discover that the Biden family received not just $20 million in foreign funds, but as much as $50 million.
Comer, who plans to subpoena bank records for Jim Biden, the president’s brother, said, “Jim Biden didn’t leave a laptop lying around, so it’s not been as easy to track his transactions.”
In related news, New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez, who was indicted Friday on bribery charges, rejected growing calls for his resignation and strongly hinted yesterday that he plans to seek reelection next year.
Schumer’s Shabby Senate
With so many disturbing things happening to the country, I haven’t commented yet on the ridiculous decision by Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer to eradicate the Senate’s dress code to accommodate the buffoon senator from Pennsylvania.
Not only are Republicans outraged by this change, but a number of Democrats are also furious. Sen. Joe Manchin is expected to introduce a resolution to restore the Senate’s dress code to its pre-Fetterman standards.
A New York Post reporter went to several New York City restaurants dressed the way Schumer is allowing Fetterman to appear on the Senate floor. He was turned away by virtually every establishment for dressing inappropriately.
If your clothes can’t get you in the door at a New York restaurant, they shouldn’t get you through the door of the U.S. Senate!
Here’s why this is just more than a sideshow. Civilization is a choice.
We get up every morning and decide to follow certain rules of decorum and behavior because that’s how you keep a society together. We have seen a total breakdown of those norms year after year. It affects music, arts, public discourse, behavior in our schools, you name it.
While some standards may change and relax over time, the wholesale abandonment of standards is rarely, if ever, a good thing.
Oh, Canada!
After addressing the United Nations and meeting with members of Congress last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled north and spoke before the Canadian Parliament.
After Zelensky’s remarks, Athony Rota, the speaker of the House of Commons, recognized Yaroslav Hunka, who was in the audience for Zelensky’s address. Rota said:
“We have here in the chamber today a Ukrainian-Canadian veteran from the Second World War who fought for Ukrainian independence against the Russians and continues to support the troops today, even at his age of 98. He’s a Ukrainian hero, a Canadian hero, and we thank him for all his service. Thank you.”
The members of the Canadian Parliament gave Mr. Hunka a standing ovation.
Well, there’s just one problem. Mr. Hunka “service” happened to be in Adolf Hitler’s SS 14th Waffen Division. The reason he left Ukraine is because he served in the Nazi army, fighting alongside German troops.
Meanwhile, as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government is honoring actual Nazis, it is smearing parents who oppose LGBTQ indoctrination in the schools as hateful fascists.
