Progressive Anti-Semitism
Jewish Democrats in the House were appalled that more than a dozen of their colleagues couldn’t bring themselves to condemn the atrocities of Hamas.
For years now, I have been warning about the growing acceptance of anti-Semitism within the progressive left, whether it was in the Women’s March, the Black Lives Matter movement, on our college campuses and even in the halls of Congress.
Well, after the evil massacre of Israeli civilians, the specter of anti-Semitism is now threatening to tear the Democrat Party apart.
The House of Representatives has approved a resolution expressing America’s support for Israel in its fight against Hamas. The vote should have been unanimous, but it wasn’t.
Sixteen representatives either opposed the resolution or voted “present,” which is just another way of opposing it. And 94% of that opposition came from House Democrats.
Jewish Democrats in the House were appalled that more than a dozen of their colleagues couldn’t bring themselves to condemn the atrocities of Hamas. Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) blasted his fellow Democrats on social media, writing:
“15 of my Democratic colleagues voted AGAINST standing with our ally Israel and condemning Hamas terrorists who brutally murdered, raped, and kidnapped babies, children, men, women, and elderly, including Americans. They are despicable and do not speak for our party.”
One of those 15 Democrats, Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN), hit back, calling Gottheimer “a coward,” “a punk,” and “a gangster.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), chairwoman of the Progressive Caucus (she voted “present” on the Israel resolution), warned President Joe Biden he better “be careful” expressing his support for Israel. Jayapal suggested that the United States was “losing credibility” for standing with Israel.
The Democratic Socialists of America, which claims at least eight elected congressmen as members, just lost one of its founders because of its “morally bankrupt” response to the October 7th massacre in Israel.
The latest Gallup poll found that Joe Biden’s approval rating has fallen 11 points just among Democrats. Gallup blames Biden’s drop on his “support for Israel following the October 7th attacks by Hamas.” That’s very revealing and very disturbing for what it says about the base of Biden’s party.
Who’s Funding Hate?
Here’s an infuriating and ironic item. It turns out that George Soros, a Hungarian Jew, is funding much of the left’s anti-Israel activities. Soros’s Open Society Foundation has donated at least $15 million to groups sponsoring rallies calling for genocide.
In addition to Soros, there’s the Arabella Advisors fund, which specializes in “dark money.” It’s a way for leftist billionaires to funnel vast amounts of money to so-called “progressive causes” without ever having to pay a price. Since 2018, Arabella Advisors has given nearly $11 million to numerous anti-Israel organizations.
I’m advising the Republican Party and conservative candidates to tie every Democrat to these extreme groups that are radically out-of-step with most Americans. For example, 78% of Americans consider Hamas to be a terrorist organization and 60% want pro-Hamas groups to be investigated by law enforcement.
Better Late Than Never
The hatred on university campuses for Jews and Christians who support Israel has been shocking. For example, the kosher dining hall at Cornell University was shut down after vile threats were posted online, including one that threatened to “slit the throats of Jews.”
After being AWOL for three weeks, the Biden White House finally announced a plan of sorts to battle anti-Semitism on campus. Talk about chutzpah! Members of Biden’s party are the source of anti-Semitism on campus and in the culture generally.
Importing Hate
For far too long now, even after 9/11, American immigration policies have brought millions of people into our country who hate Jews, who don’t believe in religious pluralism or any of the ideas central to the American Republic.
On top of that, we issued more than 390,000 student visas in fiscal year 2023 to bring foreign students to America’s major universities. They too often bring the hatred of their home countries with them. Then those hatreds are reinforced by progressive neo-Marxist professors, who teach these students that America is evil, founded on slavery and genocide.
All of the disgusting calls for a second Holocaust just didn’t pop up out of nowhere on October 7th. This hatred has been festering on our campuses for years. We have covered it for years.
Now we’re reaping the whirlwind of insane immigration policies. In their own way, these idiotic policies are a form of national suicide.
And virtually no one, except for Donald Trump, has the courage to call for the necessary reforms to stop this hatred from getting worse.
Joe Biden has essentially unlocked every door into America. I guarantee you that more than just future demonstrators are crossing our borders. He has allowed future terrorists who will kill Americans to enter our country.
And when we suffer our October 7th event, everyone will ask, “How did this happen?” Just look at the news. It’s happening every day.
A New Russian Pogrom
A flight from Tel Aviv landed in the Russian state of Dagestan on Sunday. Passengers getting off the plane were immediately accosted by a mob of Muslims hunting for Jews.
Angry demonstrators, carrying Palestinian flags, swarmed the tarmac and surrounded the plane. They chanted, “Allahu Akbar,” “We are against Jewish refugees,” and “There is no place for child-killers in Dagestan.” Passengers attempting to leave the airport were blocked by protesters demanding to see their passports.
It turns out that some passengers on the plane were children from Dagestan who went to Israel for medical treatment.
Kudos To Speaker Johnson!
While everyone was frustrated by the long delay in getting a new speaker of the House, I believe it was well worth the wait. Speaker Mike Johnson is a grand slam home run for those of us who believe in Faith, Family and Freedom.
When pressed by reporters to explain his worldview and what motivates him, Speaker Johnson said, “I am a Bible-believing Christian… Go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it — that’s my worldview. That’s what I believe, and I make no apologies for it.”
Over the weekend, I attended a major event sponsored by the James Dobson Family Institute. At my urging, Speaker Johnson took time out of the deluge of media requests he is getting to Zoom into the conference and do an informal interview with Dr. Dobson.
Later that evening, after I texted my thanks and appreciation to the new speaker for his time, he urged me to come visit him on Capitol Hill. Speaker Johnson also reminded me that one of his earliest political experiences was riding the Bauer for President bus with me as I campaigned around Louisiana.
It’s a small world indeed, and God can put the pieces together in surprising ways!
