Young Washington
Angel Studios’s film “Young Washington” comes out in theaters on July 3rd, and I highly recommend it.
Carol and I, along with some of the leadership team of the James Dobson Family Institute, attended an exclusive screening of the new movie “Young Washington” at a packed Kennedy Center. It’s a great movie—perfect for this 250th birthday of America!
As the title indicates, the movie is about the early life of George Washington, what built his character and made him the indispensable leader a young America needed.
I was particularly happy that the movie highlighted what became known as the Indian Prophecy. It refers to the Battle of Monongahela that took place on July 9, 1755, at the beginning of the French and Indian War.
The British force Washington served in was marching to capture a French fort when it was attacked by French troops and their allied Indian warriors. The British force suffered heavy losses. Most of the commanding British officers were killed or wounded. But not George Washington.
His coat and hat had multiple bullet holes. Two horses were shot out from underneath him. But he escaped without a scratch.
Years later, Washington encountered an Indian chieftain who was at the battle. He told Washington that he ordered his warriors to kill him, but every shot missed. The chief declared that Washington had been protected by a mighty power in the sky and predicted that he would become the leader of a great nation.
Everybody in the colonies believed this was evidence of God’s hand on Washington, and later God’s hand on the colonies, as it was under Washington’s military leadership that we successfully defeated the British and won our independence.
“Young Washington” was produced by Angel Studios, which has made several outstanding faith-based films. The acting is excellent and includes such stars as Kelsey Grammer, Ben Kingsley and Andy Serkis. “Young Washington” comes out in theaters on July 3rd, and I highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed!
Trump & GOP Secure America
Tuesday, House Republicans passed the $70 billion Secure America Act to fund border security and immigration enforcement measures. President Trump signed it into law Wednesday afternoon. Not one Democrat voted for the bill.
As a reminder, open border Democrats shut down the Department of Homeland Security for 76 days, starting in mid-February. Senate Democrats were filibustering the department’s funding over outrageous demands that would have gutted immigration enforcement. At the end of April, they conceded to fund most of the department except for anything related to the border and interior immigration enforcement.
As a result, Republicans were forced to use the difficult reconciliation process to bypass the filibuster. Thankfully, Democrats got nothing they were demanding. More importantly, border security and immigration enforcement are now fully funded for the rest of President Trump’s term.
It is shocking, but not surprising, that the media did not hold Democrats accountable for shutting down the Department of Homeland Security for as long as they did. Many DHS employees went months without being paid. More than 1,100 TSA workers quit because they couldn’t pay their bills.
The shutdown impacted not only border and immigration enforcement, but it also disrupted security for events in Washington, D.C., and around the country for the World Cup.
Here’s some good news: The border wall, which Democrats and some establishment Republicans opposed, will be completed by the end of next year.
Love It Or Leave It
A YouGov poll finds that 35% of Americans would prefer to live in another country. Looking at the demographic breakdown of the poll, one figure really stands out—55% of Democrats would prefer to live somewhere else.
The next time I’m at the White House, I’m going to suggest a government program that all of us could wholeheartedly get behind. Let’s save more taxpayer money from fraud and corruption by making it easier for Democrats to go to whatever country they prefer. They would be happier and so would we!
Thirty-eight percent of independents said they would rather live in another country. I guarantee the vast majority of them are left-leaning independents. It’s too bad the pollsters didn’t name this Shangri La that so many want to go to. But I digress.
Ten percent of Republicans said they would prefer to live elsewhere, which I find puzzling. It may be that they are retirees trying to avoid onerous taxation, or they just don’t recognize America anymore.
Breaking down the results by gender is vomit-inducing—42% of American women want to live somewhere else. Don’t blame our son if he’s having a hard time finding a woman to marry. Nearly half of the eligible women in America don’t love our country.
Platner Prevails
Graham Platner won 72% of the primary vote to be the Democrat Party’s Senate nominee in Maine. I have said this before, but I want to emphasize it again: It is very unlikely that Republicans are going to defeat him on Election Day by pointing out the latest embarrassing thing about his personal life or the outrageous things he has said.
Less than one year ago, in the slightly left-leaning purple state of Virginia, disgusting text messages from a Democrat were in the headlines. He fantasied about seeing conservative mothers holding their dead children in their arms because that was the only thing that would teach them a lesson.
Yet, virtually every Democrat and independent voter marched to the polls and made that man the attorney general of Virginia.
Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), if she wants to win reelection, must have a message that explains how our ideas are making life better for the people of Maine. So far, I’m not hearing one word about that.
Platner has a very effective line to deflect the negative attacks. He has said several times, “Republicans are trying to make this election about me. It’s about you, and how I will fight for you in Washington, D.C.”
This is the guy with no previous political experience—you know, just like Donald Trump. That was also Donald Trump’s message. Did all the stuff the Left dragged up or made up about Trump’s past stop him from being elected twice? No, it did not.
I keep hearing on Fox News, “You’re not going to believe what comes out next about Platner! He’s got no chance.” Well, is there any evidence that strategy is working now?
By the way, when she was in the race, Democrat Gov. Janet Mills was also leading Susan Collins, and Mills is all in on allowing men in women’s sports, locker rooms and bathrooms.
A Star Is Born
Referring to Graham Platner’s victory Tuesday night, former Obama campaign manager Jim Messina told MS NOW, “You’re seeing a star is born, and you’re seeing how a guy who no one had heard of a year ago, even in Maine, just beat the incumbent governor in a primary.”
Remember how Republicans mocked Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? Much of it was well deserved. But the reality is that she’s a serious contender for the Democrat presidential nomination. She is a key leader of the movement that is transforming the Democrat Party into an outright socialist and Marxist party.
And the GOP still does not understand what is going on.
Defense Welfare
A number of disturbing reports in recent days are casting serious doubt on Europe’s ability to defend itself. All of Britain’s attack submarines are in port for repairs because they are all unfit for service. The Royal Navy’s flagship aircraft carrier has developed engine problems—again—and is being repaired in a Norwegian port.
But wait. There’s more.
After nine years of development and $116 billion later, it was just announced that the joint French-German next-generation fighter jet is a total failure.
In the decades after World War II, the NATO alliance was critical to containing the Soviet Union. But over time, it became a welfare program, and conservative Republicans understand what welfare programs do to people over time.
They undermine a person’s sense of responsibility and character. It discourages work because you can get paid without making any effort. And guess what? That’s exactly what it does between nations.
Donald Trump saw this fifteen years ago. The mutual defense pact between our nations became a welfare pact in which we paid the bills and Europe did not hold up their end of the bargain.
As time passed, many European politicians decided that getting votes was more important to them than actually keeping their commitments made to the United States. And they did a shocking thing for politicians—they decided it was easier to buy off voters than to pay for their own security, because we were handling that.
So, all these European countries moved to the left. They busted their budgets with big socialist programs. And once they moved to the left, they couldn’t be for secure borders because that would be “racist.”
Now, they are well down the road to becoming totalitarian states. They are putting Christians in jail. They are suppressing free speech. They mock American values. They demand we defend them or, as the prime minister of Canada threatened, they’ll make an alliance with Communist China.
To put it on a personal level, if you’re married and having all kinds of financial challenges, but your spouse is doing nothing to help, would you continue in the marriage without any changes being made? I doubt it.
Some say, “We can’t be ‘America alone.’” Do these people not understand that America is alone? Our best ally is arguably Israel, which many left-wing Americans don’t want as an ally.
And if you’re going to look to Europe, our best allies are not countries in Western Europe. They are the countries in Eastern Europe—the countries most trying to hang on to their Christian heritage and secure their borders.
Still Rising
The latest economic report shows inflation increased in May and is now 4.2% on an annualized basis. Pundits on the financial networks yesterday had their hair on fire, screaming, “Inflation hasn’t been this bad in years!”
That would be April 2023—just three years ago, and inflation was higher then, at 4.9%.
Vladimir Putin was blamed for that. We can blame the ayatollah for this.
