Trump Saves Washington, D.C.
It’s been a year since President Trump deployed the National Guard to D.C., and the results are truly amazing.
President Trump was mortified over the state of our nation’s capital when he returned to office in January 2025. He was determined to restore the city in time for the country’s 250th birthday party.
One big decision was to bring in the National Guard to help the D.C. police on the streets. This was particularly urgent after it was discovered that top police officials were lying about the city’s crime statistics to make it look like crime was going down. It wasn’t.
Of course, Washington’s leftists screamed that they were living in “Hitler’s totalitarian Germany.” Don’t forget that when he held a parade for the Army’s 250th birthday, leftist leaders cried that it reminded them of Tiananmen Square—as if Trump was going to order tanks to run over liberals.
It’s been a year since President Trump deployed the National Guard to Washington, D.C., and the results are truly amazing.
- More than 16,000 criminals were arrested, including at least 100 gang members and 35 suspected murderers.
- 2,000 illegal firearms were seized.
- 25 missing children were rescued.
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris could have rescued those children. They chose not to. Let that sink in.
And what did the leftist ideologues on the D.C. City Council just do? They sent a letter to 20 state governors demanding they withdraw their state’s National Guard troops from the city.
In Washington, D.C., no good deed goes unpunished. They should be writing letters thanking these governors, virtually all of whom are Republicans.
Democrats regularly accuse Red state Republicans of being racists. But they were the ones who sent their sons and daughters to protect the Black residents of Washington, D.C.!
No Greater Insult
The National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., was vandalized Thursday. This noble and respectful place for reflecting on the courage and sacrifices of the Greatest Generation had the phrase “Clean Hands Dirty $” spray-painted on it. The fountain was polluted with some sort of chemical.
My father fought World War II in the South Pacific. He often went days on end without bathing or even taking off his combat boots. When he could take off his boots, large portions of skin and flesh peeled off and bled from wetness and fungus.
And now some ingrate psycho spits on the service of men like him by vandalizing the memorial.
President Trump blasted the memorial’s desecration, writing on Truth Social:
“Our beautiful World War II Memorial was just hit by Spray Painting Vandals. THERE CAN BE NO GREATER INSULT TO THOSE AMERICAN HEROES WHO DIED IN WORLD WAR II. First the Reflecting Pool, now this. We are on their trail! Where do these animals come from???”
This type of cultural vandalism is a rare occurrence under President Trump, and a suspect was just arrested.
But it was commonplace in the summer of 2020 when leftist mobs rioted in our cities and throughout the Biden years. Statues and monuments desecrated by Marxists were left despoiled. Fountains that fell into disrepair became monuments to D.C.‘s relentless decline. President Trump cleaned them up and fixed them (here and here) as part of his revitalization of Washington, D.C.
I am not suggesting the typical liberal thinks this way, but the “philosopher kings” of the Marxist Left, who control so many big cities and so many university faculty lounges, believe there is a political benefit for them if Americans are seeing daily decay.
They want people to be afraid. They want you to step over bodies and human feces in the street. They want you to see that courage and honor don’t matter. Their message is, “Western civilization is collapsing. It didn’t work. That’s why we need socialism and Marxism.”
What Are They Celebrating?
From the smiles and applause at this bill signing ceremony, it looks like these women just got some good news. Maybe lower taxes on families or more opportunities for women-owned businesses. Perhaps it was legislation protecting women’s sports from men claiming to be women.
Oh, wait—that’s Maura Healey, the far-left governor of Massachusetts. I should have known better. These women are celebrating Massachusetts becoming the 10th Democrat state to allow abortions right up to the point before a baby emerges from the womb and takes its first breath.
Massachusetts is home to Plymouth, where the song tells us the Pilgrims had such pride. Of course, they weren’t fortune tellers. They couldn’t see this celebration of child sacrifice in the future.
Educate Them; Don’t Mock Them
Sometimes I fall into the trap of being too critical of young Americans who seem to complain a lot. Many of them voted for Donald Trump in 2024. But now they are toying with socialism. We shouldn’t mock them or write them off.
Most young Americans want what each generation wants—to find someone to marry and settle down. They want to get a good job using the university degree they borrowed money to earn. They want to save enough money to buy their first house.
There are real challenges today. It wasn’t their fault that their schools were shut down during COVID. It’s not their fault they don’t know how economics works and sometimes can’t balance a checkbook. They go off to socialist universities, and after four years of indoctrination we should not be surprised that they graduate as socialists.
As parents and as a society, we need to do a better job of educating our children. And we need to stop sending them to universities dominated by socialists and Marxists.

- Thanks to aggressive action by the Trump administration, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center will no longer perform transgender procedures on children.
- Secretary of State Marco Rubio has revoked more than 175,000 visas from foreign visitors for criminal behavior and anti-American activism.
- Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy issued new regulations making English proficiency a permanent requirement for commercial truck drivers. This action comes in the wake of numerous fatal accidents caused by illegal alien truck drivers who could not read road signs.
- The full Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 8-to-5 to uphold Florida’s law protecting children from drag shows. All eight judges in the majority protecting children were Republican appointees. All five dissenting judges were Democrat appointees.
