The Patriot Post® · Now Trump Is the Threat to Elections?

The timing was predictable, and so was the message: “With seven weeks until Election Day, officials are preparing for seized ballots, ICE agents at the polls and a postal system that could reject ballots by the batch.”

That’s the ominous subhead of a story by Patrick Marley and Laura Meckler in yesterday’s Washington Post. The headline? “The new threat election officials fear: Trump’s federal government.”

So the president who’s been trying to push the SAVE America Act through Congress — the wildly popular legislation that would reform and protect our election system by requiring photo ID for voting and proof of American citizenship for registering to vote — is actually “the new threat” to free and fair elections? Got it. As Marley and Meckler report:

For the last year and a half, Trump and his administration have disparaged long-standing voting practices, dismantled federal agencies that protect elections, impounded ballots from past elections, amplified conspiracy theories, threatened to prosecute election officials, tried to limit mail ballots and pushed to require proof of citizenship to register to vote.

Their efforts have touched on nearly every stage of voting and could affect control of Congress, as Republicans try to retain their slim majority. A Democratic takeover of the House would stall Trump’s agenda, block funding for his initiatives, trigger a flood of investigations and mire his administration in congressional hearings.

Conspiracy theories — at least those on the Right — tend to be conspiracy facts that simply haven’t been fully fleshed out yet. No, 9/11 wasn’t an inside job, and no, the lunar landing wasn’t staged in a Hollywood studio, but the oft-repeated claim that the 2020 election “was the most secure in our nation’s history” hasn’t aged terribly well. I mean, unless you think decrepit old Joe Biden — who couldn’t draw flies on the campaign trail even if he jumped into an anaerobic lagoon beforehand — got more population-adjusted votes than rock-star Barack Obama got in 2008.

I mean, illegals don’t vote, right? It’s just Trump and his wild conspiracy theories, right? As Marley and Meckler add, “Trump continues to spread unsupported claims that voting by noncitizens is partly to blame for his 2020 loss. But court records and independent reviews show noncitizens rarely register to vote or try to cast ballots. Georgia officials determined noncitizens accounted for about 0.002 percent of the state’s registered voters and a study of voting in 42 jurisdictions in 2016 found one potential noncitizen vote for every 783,000 ballots.”

No, “noncitizens rarely register to vote.” Except for those rare instances when we, ahem, inadvertently register thousands of them to vote, right?

As for whether illegals will vote, and vote Democrat, in the crucial swing congressional districts that’ll decide the November 3 midterms, you might ask yourself: Why wouldn’t they vote?

Last month, former Trump adviser Steve Bannon argued in favor of an “up-armored ICE presence at these polling booths” during his podcast.

If that sounds to you like intimidation, Bannon agrees, but adds, “Well, it ain’t intimidation if you’re a United States citizen. It’s an intimidation if you’re a foreigner and here illegally and not eligible to vote. It should be intimidating; we don’t want you there. We don’t want you near a voting booth. We certainly don’t want your votes.”

Let’s face it: Our election system is broken. As our Mark Alexander has written, “[Democrats] have perfected their bulk-mail ballot fraud strategy ... promoting the counting of millions of unauthenticated ballots cast by mail and in person, in states that do not require voter ID. That strategy accounted for the Biden/Harris 2020 win by a margin of more than seven million votes.”

“In early 2020,” Alexander adds, “the Biden/Harris regime ticket, and their Democrat Party strategists, implemented bulk-registration and bulk-mail balloting schemes across the nation, which in most Democrat-controlled states excluded requirements to authenticate who was receiving and who was casting those ballots. Their strategy originated with Anthony Fauci’s mandates to circumvent in-person voting, using the ChiCom Virus pandemic as his rationale.”

Despite the Democrats’ resistance to free and fair elections, the Trump administration presses on, even as election officials suggest the litigation is all “theatrical.”
