Let’s play a game of “spot the racism.”
Here is the first image:
Here is the second, highly cropped image that leaves out all the context and has added black eyes to clue you in:
Did you see it? Did you detect how the image evokes the KKK and a lynching?
If you didn’t (because you’re not a psycho), congratulations.
However, we do not live in a sane epoch. There are many sociopaths haunting the Internet, and the race-baiting mob needed something new to complain about this week.
Last week, it was Sydney Sweeney’s Noviq ad — a moral high ground that is nonexistent for the feminists on the Left who declare that “sex work is work.” As our Samantha Koch observed:
For decades, sexual liberation has been presented by many feminists as progress. Women should control their bodies. Women shouldn’t be shamed for displaying them. Women shouldn’t be judged according to traditional standards of modesty or sexuality.
Yet for some reason, when Sweeney exercises the very autonomy feminists claim to have spent decades fighting for, suddenly there are conditions. Her choices are no longer simply her own — she needs to think about what she’s doing to women as a whole.
Now the mob has come after the shoemaker Converse, which is hardly a right-wing company. In fact, it makes a Pride shoe every June. It should also be noted that Converse’s chief marketing officer is Rodney Rambo, who is black, meaning he would have seen and approved the ad before sending it out into the world. He didn’t find it offensive.
Cultural commentator Kangmin Lee, who wrote an article for The Daily Wire’s Upstream section, had a very different perspective: Anyone looking at this ad will see a beautiful Asian woman wearing Converse shoes, but what they may not know is that the model is a K-pop megastar. She is part of the girl group aespa and is known publicly as Karina.
Here’s what may explain the motivation behind the wokesters’ smear. Lee notes that leftist activists apparently believe Koreans are racist against black people, and they go out of their way to paint them in that light. So a supposed KKK hood hidden in the light on Karina’s skirt is just the fodder they need to fan the racial flame.
Per Lee:
Megastars such as Karina threaten a certain kind of narcissism — the kind that needs the world obsessing over one group and one narrative forever. Some ideologues grew so accustomed not only to America but to the world bending over backward at every accusation of racism that they’ve gotten addicted to it. Worldwide Korean recognition threatens that addiction, and manufacturing race hoaxes allows them to exercise power over others as they wait for brands and celebrities to fold. They view Koreans like me as “white-adjacent” for this very reason; they hate merit, excellence, and success because they have not attained it.
It is counter-racism at its finest.
The most galling thing about this situation is that Converse decided to bend the knee, pull the ad, and apologize. Have corporations learned nothing? The second you give the lunatics any credibility, they use that power to burn other things down.
What both the Sweeney ad and the Karina controversy have in common is that these women represent people leftists don’t like. Nothing they do will be spared the torch of the mob. Sweeney and Karina’s success means that the Left’s favored racial groups have somehow been diminished. This is classic gospel-of-envy behavior.
It’s also peak 2017 — when the mob could cancel anyone almost at will. Clearly, we are being forced to stay on this woke hamster wheel for a while longer. As long as companies like Converse give weight to the mob’s complaints, the hamster wheel will continue to run, the race-baiters will continue to attack innocent people, and the rest of us here will continue incredulously shaking our heads.
