We are two weeks away from the midterm elections. Campaign ads are everywhere, with each political party telling us why their candidates should be in charge.

The Democrats’ strategy as a whole is, Trump is bad, but we’re good.

We will know soon whether the Republicans got their message out. Unfortunately, they have not done a good job of doing that so far. They have not sold the positive things Donald Trump has done because, well, he’s Trump! The GOP seems positioned to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory — again!

While the economy is not exploding like it was in Trump’s first term, many good things have happened that you will never read about in the legacy media. Next month, we will be able to ascertain whether the message of greed, envy, and hate defeated sanity, sound economic policy, and outright patriotism, the latter being in short supply.

This pattern has been described before.

When the Revolutionary War was over and the Hand of God was evident throughout that great struggle, a Constitutional Convention was called to unite the 13 colonies into one uniform type of government. After weeks of chaos and angry tirades, the eldest statesman in the room, Benjamin Franklin, finally brought spiritual faith into the discussion. The result: “A Republic... if you can keep it.”

Have we reached the tipping point where we may lose this Republic? Let’s look at our current reality.

The “Fatal Sequence” is exactly what is happening now — politicians outdoing each other by promising more and more “free” stuff. This sequence was described by Henning Webb Prentis Jr. like this:

  1. From bondage to spiritual faith
  2. From spiritual faith to great courage
  3. From courage to liberty
  4. From liberty to abundance
  5. From abundance to complacency
  6. From complacency to apathy
  7. From apathy to dependence
  8. From dependence back into bondage

This is America in a nutshell. It took a Great Awakening prior to the Revolutionary War to bring spiritual faith to the colonies to throw off the yoke of bondage from England. That courage led to liberty and then to abundance, as America is the most prosperous nation on earth.

But this abundance has led to complacency. We are taking our freedoms for granted and expecting government to meet our needs. As a result, greed and corruption are rampant in our society. Many feel entitled to what others labored for as if it is owed to them. We understand, because extremists tell them they are owed what others have. The next step is dependence. Politicians tell us, Government will take care of you. You don’t even need to work for it — someone else will.

That dependency will take us back into bondage. What government gives, it can also take away. Government will decide what medical care you will receive. Government will decide what and how much food you need. Government will decide if you need a car, a bus, or a bike. What could go wrong?

Socialism/Marxism always leads to shared misery. Always!

God help us if this is where we are. But if it is, we can start all over again by having the kind of faith that defeated Great Britain and that can defeat the communists who try to control our lives.

Let’s pray we get to step one, “spiritual faith,” before hitting step eight, “bondage.”

Something to pray about!
