Companies are pouring billions into new investments in blue states
Despite the Democrats’ penchant to fight and block President Trump at every turn, his MAGA agenda is bringing billions of dollars in new investments and jobs to the country’s bluest states. Some 2.4 million manufacturing jobs were saved in 19 Democrat-run states because of Trump’s tax incentives in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Since Trump’s return to office, approximately $670 billion in announced or completed investments have gone to states that voted for Kamala Harris. That does not include the $1 trillion in new investments in both red and blue states, including $500 billion from Apple in California, Oregon, Texas, and Kentucky. The $670 billion in just blue states is expected to create more than 400,000 direct jobs and one million indirect jobs. The numbers were released ahead of the midterm elections to demonstrate that Trump’s tariff, tax, and reshoring policies are working for all Americans and that the overall economy is heading in the right direction.
Alberta rejects independence appeal
Albertans voted down a referendum to begin the process of separating from Canada on Monday, with roughly 76% voting to keep the country’s oil-rich province in the nation. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney celebrated the result, stating, “Albertans made a clear choice. They chose unity, to build together, and to take care of each other. Above all, Albertans chose Canada.” Despite the loss, separatist leader Keith Wilson saw some positives in the vote, noting that “at least a quarter of Albertans feel that Alberta needs to be treated better.” Historically, Canadian separatist parties have garnered only 1% to 2% of the vote; thus, the Alberta referendum result shows that a significant portion of the province’s population is quite frustrated with Ottawa’s abusive left-wing leadership. As one voter argued, “They want to take and take and take from us, and not return anything.”
Ukraine completes the first recorded drone evacuation
A video released by Ukraine shows the world’s first case of an injured soldier’s evacuation by drone. The video portrays a soldier strapping himself onto the drone and flying at low altitude toward the pickup site. He was joyfully greeted by drone operators and medics, knowing the historic first this would be. Brigade command opted to use the technology “due to intense enemy drone activity and the presence of landmines, [making] evacuation using conventional unmanned ground vehicles impossible.” The drone, originally used as a bomber, was about twice the size of the soldier it was carrying and had been altered to ensure that it would fly without violently swaying or flipping. This marks a continuation of the improvement of drone technology that has been the hallmark innovation of the Russo-Ukrainian War and will likely redefine the battlefield in future conflicts.
DOJ arrests another 28 noncitizens voters in CA
On Monday, the Justice Department arrested another 28 noncitizens living in California, charging them with illegally voting. The arrests were part of the Trump administration’s Operation Protect the Vote. As Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter explained, “This causes real damage to real elections and real damage to American citizens.” Unsurprisingly, California Democrat AG Rob Bonta claimed that illegal voting fraud was “a drop in the bucket,” implying it wasn’t a big enough concern for federal officials to pursue. Interestingly, California is one of several Democrat-run states that have refused to hand over voter information to the federal government, prompting Los Angeles federal prosecutor Bill Essayli to ask, “Why is California refusing to show their voter rolls? What are they afraid of? What are they hiding?” Thus far, the DOJ has charged 113 people with illegal voting across 20 states.
Vance will not endorse Netanyahu
Vice President JD Vance declined to endorse Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for reelection. “The president has the most effective endorsement in American or international political history,” Vance said on Monday. “I endorse American candidates, and that’s where I’m focused on the midterms. So I’m not getting involved in Israeli elections.” On Sunday, President Trump gave his endorsement to Netanyahu. Still, Vance has supported foreign leaders before. Earlier this year, both Trump and Vance endorsed then-Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, but the right-wing leader lost reelection. Last month, Vance spoke with the Republican Jewish Coalition, but he has also faced criticism for his association with Tucker Carlson, who has promoted antisemitism.
Ukrainian and Sudanese refugees retain TPS status
The Department of Homeland Security has announced that more than 100,000 Temporary Protected Status recipients from Ukraine and a couple thousand from Sudan can legally remain in the U.S. TPS for both countries was set to end on October 19. The nature and length of this extension remain to be announced, but DHS said it “will be made at the appropriate time.” Until then, Ukrainian and Sudanese refugees can stay. DHS has ended TPS protections for various nations, each with varying levels of personal safety for these refugees. Ukraine was designated for TPS in 2022 at the start of the war, and President Joe Biden extended it for 18 months at the end of his term.
Faith and politics
In an article published by the Institute for Faith and Freedom, the author rightly points out how negative political campaigns and politics more generally have become and asks how Christians should respond to the “toxic political ecosystem.” He reminds readers of the Apostle Peter’s admonition to live above reproach, particularly in the face of opposition, and of the Sermon on the Mount’s rejection of the ethic of the ends justifying the means. The author believes winning should not be a top priority, but we can no longer afford that luxury in this country. As believers, we should strive for excellence and winning, not at the expense of our faith, but to defend it. The riots in France are a clear example and warning that our civilization is under attack and exemplify what happens when conservative Christian values are tossed aside.
