Introducing Susie Wiles

A look at Donald Trump’s incoming chief of staff.

Susie Wiles is the incoming White House chief of staff, and she is certainly a remarkable lady.

Like many of Donald Trump’s lieutenants, Wiles hails from Florida and has stellar conservative credentials. She has dabbled in politics for a long time, including working as a lobbyist under Governor Ron DeSantis and, most recently, serving as campaign manager for Trump’s 2024 campaign. Her work during the election season was outstanding. Under her leadership, the campaign was better run than Trump’s previous ones — i.e., there were fewer leaks and more organization.

In short, Wiles is well-seasoned. At 67 years old, she brings the wisdom and decorum necessary to get the Trump presidency up and running on January 20.

Her priority is teamwork. As Wiles explained to Axios, “I don’t welcome people who want to work solo or be a star. My team and I will not tolerate backbiting, second-guessing inappropriately, or drama. These are counterproductive to the mission.”

It will be nice to have a more unified presidential office to help implement Trump’s agenda efficiently.

Wiles will also be the first female White House chief of staff. However, that title is anathema to her preference to be a behind-the-scenes figure. She works methodically and has earned the Trumpian nickname “Ice Maiden.” Whether that moniker is because she has proverbial ice in her veins and wouldn’t hesitate to hold the line or because she is strictly business, this nom de guerre makes one sit up a little straighter.

Now that the Trump team is about to transition into the White House, Wiles’s goals remain unchanged. On the campaign trail, her job was to help package Trump’s vision for the country and present it to voters. Now, as chief of staff, that remains her goal. She intends to make the presidential office run as smoothly as possible with a group of team players who all want to help implement the mandate that the American people have given to Trump.

In her own words, that includes “rolling back redundant and burdensome regulations, keeping taxes low, cutting government waste through DOGE [the new Department of Government Efficiency], and most importantly, sealing the border and deporting criminals who are in this country illegally.”

Wiles will be Trump’s fifth COS and will hopefully have more staying power than her predecessors. The chiefs of staff during Trump’s first term included Reince Priebus, John Kelly (who sold Trump out to the Harris campaign by likening him to Hitler), Mick Mulvaney, and Mark Meadows. Meadows, you may recall, was persecuted by the Left for refusing to cooperate with the January 6 witch hunt.

White House COS is a difficult position, and now Democrats have set a precedent for political persecution. By stepping into this role, Wiles is taking on all that risk — but she does so willingly to serve our country. That, in and of itself, says a lot about her character.

Hopefully, Wiles is able to run a tight ship. We shall see what the next couple of years bring.
