When the Fire Falls: Part II
Too many times, we have silenced ourselves rather than take on the leftist bullies in our lives.
Last week we talked about the prophet Elijah taking on the false prophets of Baal. Fire fell from heaven, consumed the sacrifice, the wood, and the stone, and sucked up all the water on the ground. An incredible manifestation of God’s power!
The people of Israel gathered on Mt. Carmel and fell to the ground in fear of this manifestation of power. After putting the false prophets of Baal to death, Elijah was the man of the hour. You can almost imagine them hoisting Elijah up on their shoulders, dancing around and chanting, “You the man! You the man!” But the job wasn’t finished. The drought still continued.
Elijah went up to the top of the mountain, got down on the ground in a fetal position, and began to pray. We don’t know how long it took, but we know Elijah’s servant had to leave him seven times and go to where he could see the water only to come back and report (paraphrased), Nothing’s happening! But after the seventh time, he said, I did see something. Not much — a cloud no bigger than your hand.
Then Elijah told Ahab, You better get going because we’re in for a big rain! The power of the Holy Spirit came upon Elijah and he raced to the bottom of the mountain. The drought was over! While the Bible doesn’t say it, you KNOW everyone was excited about the rain. Well, almost everyone.
Queen Jezebel was not too happy with Elijah taking out her entire team. This was not a DOGE moment of cutting back government expenses. To the victorious prophet, she said, Dude! You’re dead meat! Elijah, the Man of God, ran away like a kid threatened by the school bully. He ran for 40 days before crashing. This is a perfect example of a person experiencing a spiritual high after a mountaintop experience (literally), then coming down to reality.
I know many people right now who seem to be crashing after the emotional high of the presidential election last November. They were flying high and looking forward to the good times with Donald Trump back in the government driver’s seat. Then, reality smacked them in the face.
While some great things are happening, the sleeping swamp giant called Washington, DC, is raising its ugly head to thwart Trump at every turn. We have judges filing injunctions against the president for everything he does. If Trump is for it, they’re against it. Deport criminal illegal aliens? No way, Jack! Cut reckless, corrupt government? “The sky is falling!” the Left says. There’s no limit to the stupidity.
Before we get too critical of Elijah, ask yourself if you’ve ever experienced the same thing. You’re out somewhere enjoying the many freedoms we have in this country when suddenly some woke leftist wants to bring your life to a miserable end because you have a Trump sticker on your car. Or you have a flag outside your home. Or, horrors of horrors, they even see you watching Fox News … IN YOUR LIVING ROOM!
Too many times, we have silenced ourselves rather than take on the leftist bullies in our lives. We had hopes of a brighter future after Trump was elected, but it seems the so-called progressives have declared open warfare on Republicans and conservatives. Take heart — you’re in good company.
The Angel of the Lord told Elijah to eat and rest to gain his strength back and get back in the game. On the mountain where he hid, the Lord told him (after the wind, earthquake, and fire), with His “still small voice,” that he was not alone. The Lord had thousands who had not bowed their knees to the progressive agenda.
Rest up and rise up! God can use Trump, but intense prayer from His people can move mountains.
Something to pray about!
