The Leftist Freakout Over Chicago Continues

The more Democrats overreact to law and order, the more President Trump looks to be positioned over the right target.

Over the weekend, Democrats were offended by an admittedly sophomoric meme posted by President Donald Trump to rile up the Democrats. And, of course, it worked.

The image features Trump as the character from the film “Apocalypse Now,” with helicopters and flames flying over the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan. The post begins with, “I love the smell of deportations in the morning” — a reference to the iconic line, “I love the smell of Napalm in the morning.” It ends with, “Chicago about to find out why it’s called the Department of WAR.”

Was the post literally about war? No. Nevertheless, the Democrats interpreted it as a declaration of war, and their legacy media lackeys quickly penned several articles about it. One New York Times reporter asserted, “The post was an alarming escalation in Mr. Trump’s quest to continue deploying the military on U.S. soil in the name of cracking down on crime and illegal immigration.”

Again, the president certainly could have shown better taste, but at least his message was on point. Trump invariably wants to clean up the mess that his predecessor created with the open border, and he also wants to make safer blue cities that have long been known for engendering crime. Those goals are repulsive to the Democrats, who once again are picking the wrong side of an 80-20 issue.

NBC News White House Correspondent Yamiche Alcindor decided to take the Left’s hysteria up with the president. Sadly for her, Trump took her down a few notches.

Alcindor: “Are you trying to go to war with Chicago?”

Trump: “When you say that, darling, that’s fake news. I don’t go to war with — listen. Be quiet. Listen! You don’t listen. You never listen. That’s why you’re second-rate. We’re not going to war; we’re gonna clean up our cities. We’re gonna clean them up so they don’t kill five people every weekend. That’s not war; that’s common sense.”

On Monday, The New York Times published an op-ed by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who is dead set against National Guardsmen potentially being dispatched to the Windy City. “We don’t need the National Guard,” Johnson opined. “We just need to invest in what works.”

Well, this same mayor recently had the audacity to claim that Chicago’s high murder rate is Indiana’s fault. Because to a leftist, the culprit for murder is forever and always the gun. For the record, the entire state of Indiana — a red state — has fewer murders in a year than the city of Chicago.

If Illinois’s leaders, including Governor JB Pritzker, are so convinced that the National Guard won’t make a difference, then why protest so much? Why not allow the proverbial pie to smack the president in the face? Former Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis gave some insight into the real issue, telling reporters, “I think they are afraid that people will see what can be done if politicians commit to taking action and really want to make a difference. That’s really the only reason I can think of because otherwise, it makes no sense.”

Weis went on to explain that 81% of shooters and 78% of their victims are black. “So you’ve got black-on-black crime, and yet the governor and the mayor said they don’t want any help. So, to me, when you refuse help, you are saying you are happy with the numbers — and that is absolutely unacceptable in Chicago right now.”

President Trump is a man of action. He promised to make America great again, and that starts with cleaning up our great cities. What his capable action illustrates is that all the Democrat talk about caring for their cities’ plight is phony baloney. They care only about keeping their power. If Trump is successful in his efforts to clean up places like Chicago, it will be yet another black mark against the Democrat brand.
