Dems Ramp Up the Violent Rhetoric

At a moment when fundamental decency dictates that the Democrats tone down their violent rhetoric and police their own, they’ve opted instead for more cowbell.

The danger isn’t so much that Virginia Democrats have a sick puppy running to be the state’s chief law enforcement officer. The danger is that they’re okay with it.

By now, Jerrauld Charles Corey “Jay” Jones should’ve dropped his bid to be Virginia’s next attorney general. When you “joke” about putting two bullets into the head of your political opponent and wish death upon his young children, you’ve outed yourself as mentally disturbed, and you’ve disqualified yourself as a candidate for dog catcher, much less as a candidate for statewide office.

Here’s the backstory: On August 8, 2022, Jones, a Democrat, inadvertently texted a former fellow state lawmaker, Republican House Delegate Carrie Coyner, to deride Republicans for their glowing tributes to a recently deceased centrist Democrat colleague, Joe Johnson.

Jones then realized he’d texted the wrong person. “Damn that was for mark,” he texted Coyner. For whatever reason, though, Jones didn’t quit while he was behind. Instead, he kept on spewing to Coyner, lashing out at then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert, a Republican, calling him a “POS” and musing about what Gilbert “would say about me if I died.”

And then this: “Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, hitler, and pol pot. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head. Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives both bullets every time.”

A source familiar with the exchange told National Review that at one point, Jones “suggested he wished Gilbert’s wife could watch her own child die in her arms so that Gilbert might reconsider his political views, prompting Coyner to hang up the phone in disgust.”

It’s rare when we get such a stark look into the diseased brain and the black heart of an elected Democrat, but there it was.

Jones’s response? An attempt to misdirect: “Like all people, I’ve sent text messages that I regret. Let’s be clear about what is happening in the Attorney General race right now: Jason Miyares is dropping smears through Trump-controlled media organizations to assault my character and rescue his desperate campaign. This is a strategy that ensures Jason Miyares will continue to be accountable to Donald Trump, not the people of Virginia. This race is about whether Trump can control Virginia or Virginians control Virginia.”

What a scumbag Jones is. But in fairness, who among us hasn’t called for a couple of bullets into the brain of those with whom we disagree politically? Indeed, let he who hasn’t wished death upon the young children of his political opponents cast the first stone.

Where’s the outrage, you ask? Why hasn’t Jones been denounced into oblivion by his own fellow Democrats? Good question. Matt Walsh has the sad answer: “Jay Jones is not going to drop out of the race. Why would he? He knows that the majority of Democrat voters agree with what he said and are happy that he said it. Fantasizing about murdering conservatives and their children is not a scandal on the Left. That’s how they all feel.”

Walsh is right. But besides the ramping up of this sort of assassination rhetoric, there’s also a sick political calculation beneath the surface in Virginia. Jones is black, and Democrats can’t win elections without overwhelming support from their black voter base. For this reason, Virginia Democrat gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger can’t call for Jones to drop out. All she can do is express her “disgust” and say that Jones “must fully take responsibility for his words.” But not drop out. No, calling for her sick colleague to exit the contest is a bridge too far.

This was Spanberger’s Sister Souljah moment, and she failed miserably. But if Virginians want a gutless governor, they know whom to vote for. And if they do, they’ll get the government they deserve. On the other hand, if the Old Dominion’s voters choose Republican Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears to replace the term-limited Glenn Youngkin, they’ll be saying loudly and clearly: Enough!

Unfortunately, early voting has already begun in Virginia, and as of Saturday, more than 350,000 votes had already been cast. Just one more reason why we need to do away with the Democrats’ Election Season and return to the Framers’ Election Day.

President Trump also weighed in yesterday on Truth Social: “It has just come out that the Radical Left Lunatic, Jay Jones, who is running against Jason Miyares, the GREAT Attorney General in Virginia, made SICK and DEMENTED jokes, if they were jokes at all, which were not funny, and that he wrote down and sent around to people, concerning the murdering of a Republican Legislator, his wife, and their children. … Democrat Jay Jones should drop out of the Race, IMMEDIATELY, and the People of Virginia must continue to have a GREAT Attorney General in Jason Miyares who, by the way, has my Complete and Total Endorsement.”

If you don’t believe the rhetoric has gotten really bad, consider the data from Google. As columnist Chuck Devore writes: “Comparing the first six months of 2015 to the period from July 1 to Sept. 27, 2025, the … relative use of ‘Hitler + Trump’ in articles, social media posts, and other indexed online content rose by a factor of 7.18, a 618% increase. ‘Nazi + Trump’ jumped 13.4 times, or 1,244%. Most alarmingly, ‘Fascist + Trump’ skyrocketed 26.7 times, a 2,572% surge.”

There’s a sickness in our politics, and it comes from the Left. And they couldn’t care less.
