Re: Can Trump Move the Needle?
“My wife and I are both disabled veterans, so thank you for highlighting why the SOTU was a fitting forum tor the two Medals of Honor awarded. Trump did a great job of holding all present accountable.” —New York
“Trump admonished, ‘If you agree with this statement, then stand up and show your support: The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.’ Almost every Democrat remained seated — that was a brilliant move, perhaps the clearest indication at any SOTU ever, who Democrats actually represent. If Trump stays on message, the needle will absolutely move to the right.” —California
“As usual, Alexander cut through all the nonsense and got right to the point, which is this: If Trump will stay on message as he outlined in his State of the Union, the House and Senate will remain in Republican hands for his third and fourth year in office!” —Florida
“Alexander wrote, ‘The ICE refocus needs to be loud and clear moving forward in order to stem the decline of Republican support from both Hispanic and independent voters.’ That is correct, but it misses one essential point: If we could magically get all of the ‘worst of the worst’ out, 90% of illegal immigrants are still here. Unless a solution can be found for them, they will be lightning rods for all sides of the political spectrum. George W. Bush floated a plan to legalize illegals (an admittedly much smaller number back then) by making them ‘guest workers.’ Marco Rubio (from a family of Cuban immigrants) also leaned into the issue. Neither got any traction, but there is a pony in there somewhere — not amnesty, but maybe a new immigration category.” —Virginia
“Dems argue that one big measure of affordability is lowering rents, but they favor taxing landlords more, which leads to less affordability. Dems inflict mandates on landlords that are claimed to support renters but increase costs for landlords. Dems make it harder to evict renters that don’t pay their rent. Dems don’t give landlords adequate tools to remove deadbeat tenants or recover costs of repairing damage. When I rented a house out, I lost money to the point where it was cheaper to leave the house vacant than try to collect overdue rent and evict deadbeats. Landlords have mortgages that need to be paid. Landlords have tax bills and insurance bills that are through the roof. Where are the Dems when landlords need help?” —Massachusetts
Re: ‘The Real Housewives of Minneapolis’
“I understand that during World War II, Winston Churchill called for a national prayer time, during which the whole nation would engage in prayer at the same time. Perhaps Turning Point USA can take that on, as this organization has a visible presence in cities and schools across our nation. And since our ‘news’ media so enjoys targeting TPUSA, the word would spread wider, further, and faster.” —California
“A few weeks ago, I went out on my daily bike ride, my mind filled with images of screeching lesbians shouting obscenities and illegal immigrants proudly making videos telling me this was their country now and they owed it nothing. I returned from that ride angry and depressed. God took the opportunity to teach me an object lesson about meditations based on doom-scrolling.” —Oklahoma
“Faith and family have always been the highest priority targets of communist subversion in America. It is little wonder we find ourselves balkanized within our own country.” —Kentucky
Re: The Tariffs Are Dead, Long Live the Tariffs
“Most of the experts in this field have commented that the Supreme Court has made a terrible decision. The justices know little about economics and missed President Trump’s point: the legal use of tariffs to protect the economic business of the United State and its citizens. God save us from these experts in other fields who step over the line that they cannot see because of their shortsightedness.” —Massachusetts
“It’s mission impossible for Trump to use tariffs to demonstrably reduce the federal deficit or close the trade deficit when a profligate, kleptocratic, and otherwise thoroughly corrupt Congress is hell-bent on increasing both for personal gain.” —Kentucky
“The problem is not getting Congress to enact the tariffs that President Trump wants; it’s the speed at which each branch of government can act. Trump has been using threats of tariffs, or tariff increases, as a bargaining tool to persuade other nations to do what he wants them to do, whether it’s lowering their own tariffs against the U.S. or ceasing to export fentanyl precursors for eventual import into the States. Congress simply cannot impose or repeal tariffs at the speed of negotiation.” —Arizona
Re: Taking the Offensive Against Cartel
“The war on drugs was declared around the early 1970s. Couldn’t really tell there was a war going on, but a lot of talk happened, and a lot of money was spent. It became a growth industry, and many people made a lot of money. Trump is approaching the drug war more like a real war. I think it seems more effective, but it needs more allies willing to push back against the bad guys. I guess corruption is difficult to overcome.” —Washington
Re: The Peanut Gallery Pipes Up
“‘It’s Howdy Doody Time’ is a memory of my childhood. It was managed entertainment for young people — an innocent but quite meaningless diversion. I am not without criticism of some of the things the president does, but today’s constant attacks on him do nothing but drive us apart. That leads to internal divisions that may also lead to an internal war of words and deeds. As an American, I am tired of the rhetoric. If you disagree, do so with some decorum.” —Florida
“This whole article was too full of logic, thus making sense to anyone paying attention. It’s too bad those on the left side of the aisle can’t give Trump any credit. When your own Democrat leaders can do nothing but moan and complain without ever coming up with a plan that actually benefits the American people, let alone works well for the people, the expectations for true excellence will always be nonexistent.” —Texas
“Take some time to consider the team motto prominently displayed on the walls of the U.S. men’s hockey team locker room: ‘UNITY SACRIFICE ATTITUDE … USA.’ This isn’t just sloganeering to rally the team. These are virtues a nation’s citizens must have to survive difficult times. Diversity is not the key to strength; unity of purpose is. Sacrifice of self contributes to success and satisfaction, not selfish ambition or personal pleasure-seeking. A humble, studious, and grateful attitude, seeking to serve others, is valuable; pride in oneself, haughtiness or arrogance toward others, grumbling and fault-finding, and the assumption that others have nothing to contribute to knowledge are worthless and often lead to failure.” —Minnesota
