‘Suddenly’
There are a few references to the term “suddenly” throughout Scripture that are encouraging for those of us who might be losing hope.
“Therefore calamity will come upon him suddenly; in a moment he will be broken beyond healing.” (Proverbs 6:15)
“For disaster will arise suddenly from them, and who knows the ruin that will come from them both?” (Proverbs 24:22)
Who knew when I wrote last week that America needed an accurate spiritual and political diagnosis that it would happen so “suddenly”?
After the White House Correspondents’ Dinner attack, we saw video in which the assailant “suddenly” ran past the security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton and toward the ballroom where the dinner was being held.
For the first time, President Donald Trump was attending the dinner. The assailant planned to kill as many of Trump’s cabinet members as possible. After firing at a Secret Service agent, the man was taken down before he could enter the ballroom.
This is the third attempt on the president’s life in just under two years. We are a sick society. Many of us had hoped that the assassination attempts in Pennsylvania and Florida would be a wake-up call, but they were not. The vile rhetoric has only continued against Trump and anyone in his administration.
Not surprising to me, many leftists called the Washington Hilton incident a “staged attack” or a “false flag operation.” I would have loved to see the Secret Service agents discussing who would take the shotgun blast to the chest to make it look real. Did they draw straws? Inquiring minds want to know.
Of course, they said Butler, Pennsylvania, was staged too. I’m not sure I would be willing to have a “fake” assassin shoot me in the ear to make it look good. That could go wrong in so many ways!
All the political pundits and late-night no-longer-funny comedians defend their vile rhetoric, because Trump! So, alas, there will be no change in the Left’s hatred of all things Trump and all those who serve with him. As they say, “The (political) floggings will continue until morale improves!”
The term “suddenly” appears dozens of times throughout Scripture. Most of them are in reference to sudden judgment, destruction, or calamities coming upon someone or a group of people, but there are a few references that are encouraging for those of us who might be losing hope that things can change in our nation.
“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!’” (Luke 2:13-14)
“And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.” (Acts 2:2)
The announcement of the birth of the Savior of the world and the Day of Pentecost was good news that came to God’s people suddenly.
If you’ve been a Patriot Post reader for very long, you know we are a very patriotic, hopeful, optimistic bunch. That’s because we know our history, and twice in America’s darkest moments, God breathed new life into our nation.
The First and Second Great Awakenings woke up God’s people and breathed new life into His Church, transforming literally millions of lives. The fresh wind and fresh fire of God’s Holy Spirit brought our nation back to our “first love” (Revelation 2:4-5).
Don’t let the “news” determine your mental health. We’re told to walk by faith, not by sight (II Corinthians 5:7). I believe that soon we will “suddenly” be hearing a sound from Heaven that will change everything!
Pray like you mean it!
