The Dems’ Platner Poison
They can cut bait, or they can choose to ride out this vile Senate candidate and risk the potentially toxic fallout across ballots nationwide.
The Democrats are starting to panic, and their heretofore solid support for scandal-drenched weirdo and Senate candidate Graham Platner is finally starting to crumble.
“I find that tattoo and his commentary about it to be personally disqualifying,” Massachusetts Congressman Jake Auchincloss told CNN. “I hope Maine voters agree with me. I think it would be a mistake for the Democratic Party to think that Graham Platner’s brand of the Democratic Party is what wins us durable majorities throughout this country.”
Auchincloss aside, Platner is, at least for the moment, the party’s Maine Man, the tattooed totenkopfer whose candidacy Democrats believe is their best-ever chance at wresting away the precious Senate seat that moderate five-term Republican Susan Collins has controlled for 30 years now. Indeed, every six years, the Dems trot out a new Charlie Brown to take a run at that infernal senatorial football, only to have Collins snatch it away at the last second.
This time, though, was supposed to be different. This guy’s an oyster farmer, after all. Alas, it’s been one cleanup after another for Platner, the elite prepster, the commie, the cop hater, the secret Nazi, the “antifa supersoldier,” the, er, master debater whose past keeps catching up with him.
Last summer, for example, Platner’s wife since way back in November 2023, Amy Gertner, tried to preempt a potential scandal by confiding to a campaign aide that she’d found “sexually explicit texts with several women” on her husband’s phone.
Never trust a guy that went to the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut, I always say. But now it’s also Platner’s present that keeps catching up with him. As The Daily Wire reports, Platner has an active account on a cesspool of an anonymous messaging app called Kik, which the National Center on Sexual Exploitation calls a “predator’s paradise” because it enables underage users to strike up conversations with potential pedophiles.
Mind you: Platner is a married man whose wife claims, among other things, “We’ve got two dogs, and we love each other deeply,” and, “Graham and I have a great marriage,” and, “We work on our mental health every day.”
Welp, okay, nothing to see here. Except maybe that their marriage counselor and the dozen or so other women her husband has been sexting with might take issue with her definition of “a great marriage.”
“I find it really shameful,” the would-be senator’s wife continued, “that there’s a group of media outlets and people who are willing to spread gossip instead of talking about real issues that Graham is, is running on, like healthcare, and education, and childcare.”
You know what’s shameful? Behaving like Graham Platner does and then sending his obviously aching wife out to do damage control for him on social media. That’s what’s shameful.
Platner himself also attacked the messenger: “It’s no surprise to me that the establishment media outlets are just going to run gossip instead of wanting to talk about the things that actually matter in this race, which are the material realities that Mainers are working with,” he said.
On the one hand, I can’t blame the Democrats for having created this mess. After all, they’ve been hemorrhaging the male vote for decades now, and they’ve long been desperate for someone who could stop the blue-collar bleeding of this once-masculine party — someone like Platner, a rowdy, ostensibly rough-hewn former Marine who could offset their hard-earned, crossed-legged girly-man image.
But at what cost? Everyone knows that the Democrats will do just about anything to obtain political power — as Groucho Marx once said, “These are my principles. If you don’t like them, I have others” — so it should tell you just how godawful this guy is that they’re starting to walk away from him even as he has a near-double-digit polling lead on Collins.
Remember the 2010 Tea Party midterm election cycle, when the Republicans nominated serious men like Marco Rubio and Rand Paul? In that same election, they also nominated that dingbat from Delaware, Christine O'Donnell, who cost them a surefire Senate seat that popular former Governor Mike Castle would’ve won easily. Now the Democrats are monkeying with the same medicine.
Heck, who knows what other skeletons are just waiting to jump out of Platner’s closet?
New Jersey Senator Cory “Spartacus” Booker doesn’t seem eager to find out. He says that Platner has some questions to answer. “Yes, I have concerns,” Booker said. “That guy has questions to answer, and that’s what campaigns are for.”
Yes, he does have questions to answer. Plenty of them. But you know who also has some questions to answer? Bernie Sanders, and every other Democrat who refused to see what a scumbag Graham Platner is, just because he shares their derangement toward Donald Trump, and just because he sings from the same pathetic progressive hymnal.
All of them have questions to answer.
