WNBA Attack on Women’s Sports Reaches ‘Fever’ Pitch

At an organized protest in support of women’s sports and Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham, two teen girls faced the gauntlet of the intolerant Left.

On Tuesday, the WNBA’s Indiana Fever traveled to the state of Washington to play the Seattle Storm. The Fever are home to players such as Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham. The latter, you may recall, recently stood up for the integrity of women’s sports.

To show support for Cunningham, a group of organizers held a “Pro Women’s Sports” peaceful protest at Tuesday’s game. In response, a different organization hosted a “No Hate in Washington State” counterprotest. The Storm franchise was aware of the planned protests, so one of its players, Stefanie Dolson, wore a shirt during warm-ups declaring, “Trans Rights are Human Rights.”

The protesters were spread throughout the arena; the most prominent were two 16-year-old girls who sat courtside holding homemade signs thanking Cunningham for standing up for women’s sports. To quote Motormouth Maybelle from the musical comedy “Hairspray,” “Brace yourselves for a whole lotta ugly comin’ at you from a never-ending parade of stupid.”

The two teenagers were booed by other fans and given thumbs-down gestures by the Storm players on the bench. The people next to them turned or scooted as far away as their seats allowed.

But the worst was yet to come.

Right before halftime, an older woman approached the girls and reportedly said, “Jesus loves everyone” and “I hope Jesus can forgive you for what sin you’ve done.” She called the teenagers “f***ing insane,” finally ending her diatribe with “God can save you.”

Naturally, this vicious attack brought one of the girls to tears, and both of them felt so frightened and uncomfortable that they put their signs under their seats.

It turns out that the older woman who cursed at the girls while invoking the name of Jesus was Celeste Keaton, one of the co-owners of the Seattle Storm.

Let’s respond to Keaton’s attack with apologetics.

Jesus loves everyone: This is absolutely true. But there is a very crucial biblical message that she is either ignorant of or ignoring. Genesis 1:27 very clearly says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” In other words, there is a human binary. God either makes you male or female — body and soul. Jesus unquestionably loves people who are gender confused, but He also desires for them to respect their bodies — their maleness or femaleness — just the way God created them. Transgenderism is gnostic heresy, and these girls who are standing up for biological truth are neither sinning nor in need of forgiveness.

Other supporters of the “Pro Women’s Sports” protest were heckled. One man even tried to get security to throw them out, repeatedly saying, “Take out the trash.”

Other Storm fans allegedly tried to trip another teenage girl as she was walking past them in her XX-XY Athletics shirt. (XX-XY Athletics is a pro-women’s sports company founded by former gymnast and activist Jennifer Sey.)

The Left’s tolerance only extends to those who conform to their thinking. God forbid young women disagree with men invading their spaces and want to have their own sports.

All of Tuesday’s ugly behavior went viral on social media; the outcry from the public was so strong that the Seattle Storm had to issue an apology, saying, “We are aware one of our co-owners made comments to two fans in attendance at last night’s game. We apologize that this happened. Everyone who attends a Storm game deserves to feel welcome, and we remain committed to creating an inclusive environment where every fan is treated with respect.”

Keaton was fined and banned from attending the next five home games for her temper tantrum, as going after another fan with obscene language is against arena rules. A five-game ban is just a slap on the wrist, of course, but the negative publicity will probably also come back to bite Keaton.

After hearing about Tuesday’s imbroglio, Cunningham later posted a scathing criticism on social media. “I truly believe there is a safe space and love for EVERYBODY. Biological girls, biological boys, trans women, and trans men,” she said. “Everyone is welcome at my table! You can disagree and still be kind. Bravo to those girls for standing up for what they believe. You’ll be hearing from me soon yay for gifts. Truly embarrassing of the co-owner. Unfortunately shows the type of leader she is.”

Sophie Cunningham does not bend a knee to the bullies, which is such a breath of fresh air. Moreover, the tide is turning on the gender cultists. They might have plenty of bullies still willing to attack little girls at a basketball game, but their pathological support gets sent to the bench in Middle America.

For the final word, here’s author J.K. Rowling, another women’s rights advocate, lauding the teens for the heroes that they are: “These young women are heroines. They’re peacefully protesting against the grotesque unfairness of men playing in women’s sport. The only people who are ‘f*cking insane’ here are those making a mockery of fair sport for women and trying to bully girls like this into silence.”
