Barack Obama began “fundamentally transforming the United States of America” in 2008. He’s hardly done.

We can draw a straight line from his Hope ‘n’ Change™ schtick to the current alarming rise of the Democratic Socialists of America. The slick way Obama divided Americans along class and race lines undid decades of work to unify us, and the DSA thrives on cultivating those divisions. Today, whether it’s David Axelrod, Jon Favreau, or other Obama administration alumni, Obama Inc. is providing key backing for DSA candidates.

By the way, I propose we call them Democratic Socialist Agents because the DSA agenda only pertains to America in terms of destroying it.

One such card-carrying agent is Francesca Hong, the Democrat Wisconsin state representative who’s well on her way to winning the Democrat gubernatorial primary in the Badger State next Tuesday. In a crowded field, Hong has a double-digit polling lead, highlighting the civil war in the Democrat Party.

“Establishment Democrats, including Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, have rallied around Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley,” The Hill reports. “Evers and others have suggested Hong is unlikely to beat the GOP’s presumptive nominee, Rep. Tom Tiffany, in November and that she could even have a negative effect on Democrats running in competitive downballot races.”

The Democrats’ fundamental issue is how much socialism to embrace. As JD Vance put it yesterday, “Socialism is evil. But we have to ask ourselves the question: Why is socialism so appealing?”

Hong says voters just “want someone that cares.” What’s the problem with that?

The answer is fairly simple: Socialists talk a good game, but they don’t actually care about other people.

Hong provides several examples. First, consider her comments about canceling Thanksgiving. In 2021, Hong said in a since-deleted post on X, “Cancel Thanksgiving. Should have done this in 1621. If it takes a worldwide pandemic for us to realize we should stop celebrating colonialism and the original superspreader event that killed Indegenous folx [sic] and women, so be it.”

When CNN asked her about it this week, she tried to sound compassionate. Thanksgiving is a “time that’s incredibly painful for many people in our communities,” she opined. Furthermore, to deflect from the obvious left-wing bitterness and hatred for American history in that statement, Hong pointed to her “hospitality background and owning a restaurant for seven, eight years” as a reason for understanding people’s pain. Besides, Thanksgiving is now her “favorite” holiday, she told Politico yesterday, and she doesn’t want to cancel it. Sure thing.

Yet it’s not just Thanksgiving. “I’m kind of a curmudgeon when it comes to holidays in general,” she admitted. Indeed, she has also ranted about Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Independence Day in the past, always finding a reason to lament for “those who feel pain.”

“While we are not enslaved,” she posted during Joe Biden’s administration, “it is worth it, for those of us seeing our liberties, freedom, and human rights systematically stripped away, to ask what is the Fourth of July to us?” I guess May Day is the only holiday she’ll unapologetically support.

Let’s consider race because she definitely does. “My proximity to whiteness continues, right,” the Korean Hong said in 2021. “My son is biracial. He is half-white and half-Korean. I think navigating what his identity is and how people perceive him is always at the back of my mind as well.” That’s revealing — for leftists, race is indeed always on their minds.

Understandably, as a candidate for governor, she’d rather talk about policies than holidays or inconvenient racial grievances. So let’s indulge her.

How about the DSA platform item of defunding the police? In 2020, she said that defunding the police is the “first step toward abolishing the police,” which should be done because police “exist to uphold white supremacy.” There’s that race issue again.

Now she says that she no longer thinks that but just really cares about public safety. Besides, “The governor cannot defund police, and I’m not here to govern by slogan,” Hong said. “These are beliefs that I held when I was in different positions myself, and right now I’m in the position of running for governor,” she said. “I need to be sensible, sensible and practical on what we can achieve.”

In other words, she needs to fool enough voters. But she also envisions a world without prisons, and I can’t think of anything that would more quickly destroy public safety, particularly in black communities that are already beset with more violence than white ones.

How about other policies?

Hong believes that government should provide cradle-to-grave “solutions” for all kinds of problems. “Voters all across the state, regardless of party, want someone who’s going to be able to deliver change and deliver help to solve the problems that they have,” she said. “So, what … being a Democratic Socialist means to me is that I want the public goods. Childcare should be a public good, and public education, the services that everyone uses, from utilities to the roads. But I want them to be better for them.”

Translation: If you earn income in Wisconsin, Hong has big plans for your money. Socialists are always “generous” with other people’s bank accounts.

In short, Hong is a Democratic Socialist Agent embittered by her own racism and greed, and she sees the “solutions” as knocking wealthy whites down a few pegs in the name of fairness. Wisconsin voters should choose wisely.
