The Real Jobs Report
September’s report is ugly.
In 2009, Barack Obama promised the unemployment rate would be 5% by this point in 2013 if Congress would only approve his “stimulus” package. The law passed, yet four years later the economic progress is anything but rosy. Another dismal jobs report reveals that unemployment in September is 7.2%, down a mere 0.1% from August – a revelation the White House called “good news” (haven’t we heard that before?). Lost in the shadow is this incredible statistic: A record 90,609,000 Americans are no longer in the labor force, almost entirely accounting for the “drop” in unemployment. Some perspective: 130,000 additional workers enter the work force every month, yet September as a whole netted 148,000 jobs – barely enough to cover those entering the market. This time around, the Obama administration blames the pathetic numbers on the partial government “shutdown,” but the report might as well be a copy/paste from every other economic report we’ve encountered since Obama’s takeover.
