Russia hasn't really lived up to the agreement signed with Ukraine last week to de-escalate tensions there, and John Kerry isn't pleased. The American secretary of state warned, "[L]et me be clear: If Russia continues in this direction, it will not just be a grave mistake, it will be an expensive mistake." The U.S. is poised to -- no, really -- issue another round of sanctions against Russia. Kerry's Russian counterpart criticized Kerry's "unacceptable, accusatory tone," though Kerry is correct that "Russia has refused to take a single concrete step in the right direction." Still, Vladimir Putin sees nothing but weakness and empty rhetoric from the U.S. Until that changes, nothing else will either.
