Single Biggest Challenge
Mike Rowe on small business.
Mike Rowe, host of the Discovery Channel’s “Dirty Jobs,” spoke before the Senate’s House Natural Resources Committee to offer his take on problems plaguing America’s small businesses – namely, that character and hard work have all but vanished. “In all 50 states, everybody I talked to who owned a small business said … ‘the single biggest challenge we’re facing right now is finding people who are willing to retool, retrain, reboot and learn a truly useful skill from the ground up – and work, show up early, stay late and work.’” He added, “For all the talk around the issue, the biggest conversation that I’ve seen, the one that really gets resonance, happens around the kitchen table.” Indeed, it was Ronald Reagan who wisely said, “All great change in America begins at the dinner table.” Rowe added some humor to the mix, taking a jab at lawmakers: “With respect, some jobs are just too hideous to contemplate.”
