Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) wrote an op-ed in The New York Times demanding the Department of Justice release its memos justifying killing of American citizens without a trial. Obama nominated David Barron to the First Circuit Court of Appeals, the man who wrote at least a few of those secret documents which were used to green-light the killing of Anwar al-Awlaki, a high-level al-Qaida member and U.S. citizen. And Paul wants more information. “Defending the rights of all American citizens to a trial by jury is a core value of our Constitution,” Paul wrote. “Those who would make exceptions for killing accused American citizens without trial should give thought to the times in our history when either prejudice or fear allowed us to forget due process.” So far, we only have a white paper released to NBC last year.
