Jihadi Groups on the Rise
New study raises serious alarms.
As Barack Obama continues to scale down American troop presence in Afghanistan amid declarations that core al-Qaida is decimated, a new report by RAND Corporation raises serious alarms over the vast resurgence of jihadist groups – mostly in Syria. The Wall Street Journal reports, “The threat to the U.S. from global jihadist groups has escalated in the past three years, with the number of groups increasing by more than 50% and the estimated number of militants doubling.” Syria accounts for “more than half of the number of al Qaeda-sympathizing jihadists world-wide.” RAND addresses the Afghan pullout as well, noting this could “seriously jeopardize U.S. security interests.” Barack Obama made matters extremely worse this week by releasing five of the most dangerous Taliban detainees held at Guantanamo Bay all for the measly return of an America-hating Army deserter.
