Zero Common Sense
Suspended over a toy gun.
During a school day, Darin Simak discovered a toy gun in his school backpack. The Pennsylvania first-grader knew his school’s rules forbade him from bringing the toy to school, so he took the plastic six-shooter with the orange tip to the teacher and said “I’m not supposed to have this.” The act of honesty landed Darin in suspension because his school defined toy guns as weapons – probably weapons against political correctness, that is. When his parents ignored the suspension, the school said Darin couldn’t return to the classroom and placed him in in-school suspension. The school said it has a zero-tolerance policy toward violence, but zero tolerance for common sense is more like it. More…
