Hillary Mum on Iraq

The country is a minefield for her.

Hillary Clinton’s biographer, Jeff Gerth, wrote “I know that Iraq is not one of her favorite subjects” in a recent piece in ProPublica exploring Clinton’s track record in Iraq. After all, she was secretary of state when the U.S. pulled its troops from the country. So Gerth asked what Clinton had to say in “Hard Choices,” her memoir. “The answer is not a lot,” Gerth writes. “There is no chapter on its own for Iraq, like there is for Gaza, or Burma or Haiti. The discussion of Iraq is scattered throughout the 632-page book, and it is mostly about old battles. Clinton does not delve into the challenges she faced as secretary of state in 2011 as her department inherited responsibility for Iraq’s security assistance when American troops withdrew.” Do we want Hillary, who is dodgy on her previous track record in Iraq, to be the president that will most likely be handed the mess when Obama leaves the White House?
