The Millennial Tea Party?
A new survey is intriguing.
Millennials are conservative. That’s an oversimplification, of course, but a new Reason-Rupe survey indicates Americans age 18-29 are adopting a rather conservative/libertarian worldview on many issues. A few highlights of the survey of 2,000 young people were, “Millennials prefer smaller government, if larger government requires high taxes; Millennials are cautious of government power; Millennials strongly prefer free markets over a government-managed economy; and Millennials don’t like to be nannied.” However, Millennials favor government assistance for the poor and are socially liberal. And favored presidential candidates in 2016 are Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren. In other words, in order for Millennials to put their votes where they say their values are, Republicans must better articulate the timeless message of Liberty and limited government without seeming callous or indifferent to economic struggles.
