Photo Proof of War Crimes in Syria
A Syrian man, code-named “Caesar,” defected to the West, bringing with him thousands of photos proving that Bashar al-Assad’s regime is guilty of war crimes. From 2011 to 2013, Caesar worked as a Syrian, military police forensic photographer, photographing the victims of torture. His images, which he smuggled out of the country on thumb-drives, show evidence that the Syrian Army used starvation, strangulation and other forms of torture on what is estimated to be 10,000 victims targeted for their political beliefs. Former war-crimes prosecutor David Crane, who talked to Caesar, said, “[T]he last time we saw this kind of bureaucratic processing of humans was at Nuremberg.” But what of it?
