Surveyors in Antarctica Stuck in Record Cold
Record setting cold is threatening the health and safety of the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) team based on the Brunt Ice Shelf. The station, Halley VI, reportedly lost power July 30 and electricity has remained intermittent ever since. According to team member Anthony Lister, the crew experienced the coldest ever temperature during the ordeal with a thermometer reading of -55.4° C (-67.72° F).
