Ferguson Under Curfew; Brown Suspected of Robbery
All is not yet well in Ferguson, Missouri. The Washington Post reports, “Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon on Saturday declared a state of emergency in this roiling St. Louis suburb and imposed an overnight curfew, telling a group of shouting residents that order must be restored after days of protests over the killing of an unarmed black teenager by a white police officer.” Meanwhile, police confirmed that Michael Brown was a prime suspect in an earlier convenience store robbery (which was backed up by his friend, witness and accomplice Dorian Johnson). Evidently, however, Darren Wilson, the officer who shot him, was not responding to the robbery call when he encountered Brown as some early police accounts Friday had implied. But Wilson may have deduced Brown’s involvement during the stop. Whatever the case, it seems that the more information is released, the muddier the picture gets. More…
