Most Americans Do Not Favor Common Core
Common Core, the nationwide educational standards adopted by 46 states early in Barack Obama’s first term, has fallen on disfavor. A poll by Gallup and Phi Delta Kappa, an educators’ organization, shows the majority of Americans, 60%, oppose the program. A few states have dropped the standards. The Washington Post reports, “Respondents also said that they placed more trust in their local school boards when it comes to educational policy issues than in the federal government. The survey showed the Obama administration influence waning as many Americans believe that the federal government should play a smaller role in public education.” In local governance, parents have a greater say of what, and what isn’t, taught to their children.
