During a segment with conservative radio show host Ben Ferguson, CNN's Don Lemon claimed ordinary Americans can purchase automatic weapons. "Listen," he said, "during the theater shooting in Colorado I was able to go and buy an automatic weapon... I think most people can go out and buy an automatic weapon." The "automatic" weapon he was referring to is the AR-15, a semi-automatic rifle. According to Lemon's definition, "[A]n automatic weapon is something that you can shoot off a number of rounds ... very quickly." Not exactly. Ferguson explained the difference -- each trigger pull will only discharge a single shot in semi-autos -- only to be accused of "getting into semantics here." Ferguson shot back: "It's a big deal. It's a difference between breaking the law and not breaking the law." But no matter -- the point is, "I can shoot off a number of rounds very quickly and I have the capacity to take -- to harm someone's life in an instant," explained Lemon. "I think that is what's important here." Actually, what's important here is the Constitution, Rule of Law and reversing cultural rot.
