‘This Is Not About ISIL Versus the United States’
“This is not about ISIL versus the United States,” State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf insisted Thursday. The prompt for her adamant assertion was a reminder that ISIL says they are at war with the U.S. But Harf said, “They are killing anyone who gets in their way: Sunnis, Shia Muslims, Christians, Yazidis, Iraqis, Syrians – anyone who gets in their way – and now an American.” She doesn’t care if they say different. “Well, they can say whatever they’d like,” she dismissively retorted, “but what I am making clear is that’s not what ISIL represents. And they don’t represent any religion. They are at war with everybody they come into contact with.” So we’re not at war with them because they’re at war with everybody. Welcome to Obama administration incoherence.
