ABC News Exploits Shooting Tragedy With Misleading Article
Last week we reported that a nine-year-old girl lost control of a 9mm Uzi she was shooting at an Arizona gun range, killing the instructor standing beside her. Those who want to do away with the Second Amendment are exploiting the tragedy by calling for more gun legislation and penning misleading reports. ABC News continued its anti-gun crusade over the weekend with an article titled, “New Mexico Firing Range Allows Children to Shoot Semiautomatic Weapons.” (News flash: Every gun range allows semiautomatic firearms.) The author writes, “A New Mexico shooting range encourages children to practice shooting semiautomatic weapons,” noting the range has had an incident-free experience with young shooters. However, the writer followed up with a disclaimer: “That’s in contrast to the case of an Arizona firing range… The girl was shooting a semiautomatic Uzi.” Yes, the gun has that option, but the girl lost control of the Uzi after the instructor switched the weapon to fully automatic; the recoil effect proved too much for her to handle.
