House Passes Bill, but Its Mind Is On Election Day

Congress has delayed every responsibility until after the election. The House passed a bill along party lines funding the Ex-Im Bank for nine months, authorizing the training of Syrian rebels, and okaying stop-gap spending measure to be picked up after Nov. 4. Policy is not on their mind, but you can be sure they are wondering which senators will go, who will keep their seats. Best leave actual leadership, the hard decisions, until after the voters have decided. Now is the time for kissing babies, wearing the same socks every day, or whatever pre-game superstitions these politicians follow when they turn from actual governing and focus on campaigns. The House merely voted to avoid a government shutdown, which would be a disaster come Election Day because it would introduce chaos. More…
