1 in 4 Americans Support Secession
The Scottish vote whether to break from the United Kingdom raised the question of secession in the United States. A poll conducted by Reuters and Ipsos found 24% of Americans supported, or strongly supported a piece of America breaking from the union. Voters in the Northeast clung most strongly to the preservation of the union, although the Northeast was the first area of the country to seriously consider secession back in 1815. Secession was most popular in Southwest states, with 34% of voters supporting a break from Washington.
