Feinstein’s Gun Ban Didn’t Work. Again. Still.
According to a new report by ProPublica, Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s 1994 ban on “assault weapons” did nothing to reduce crime or murder. In a press release this month marking the ban’s 20 year anniversary, Feinstein insisted, “The evidence is clear: the ban worked.” ProPublica replies, “Except there’s no evidence it saved lives – and the researcher behind the key statistic Feinstein cites says it’s an outdated figure that was based on a false assumption.” Never mind stubborn facts, though. Feinstein pushed to have her ban renewed last year in response to Sandy Hook. The ban targeted primarily rifles with certain cosmetic features. And rifles of any type are used to murder fewer people than hammers and clubs. Not that Feinstein will ever give up her crusade. More…
