Holdren: Man-Made Warming Preventing Ice Age
Talk about letting the cat out of the bag. John Holdren, who serves as Barack Obama’s science advisor, has a big say when it comes to environmental policy. Concerning public relations, however, he should probably expect to be put on the back burner. During a Q&A session, Holdren inadvertently suggested there is a positive aspect to human-induced global warming: “While the climate of the earth has changed over the millennia as a result of natural factors … those changes occur far too gradually to have noticeable effects over a period of mere decades. In their current phases, moreover, they would be gradually cooling the earth – taking us to another ice age – if they weren’t being more than offset by human-caused warming [emphasis added].” And that’s a bad thing … why, exactly? As we’ve pointed out time and again, the detrimental effects of a cooler climate would dwarf any negative consequences of a warmer one.
