Romney Bows Out
Speculation has been rampant for some time about a third presidential run for Mitt Romney, but the former Massachusetts governor told supporters today that he will not run in 2016. “After putting considerable thought into making another run for president, I’ve decided it is best to give other leaders in the Party the opportunity to become our next nominee,” he said in a conference call. While Romney insisted he would have the finances and ability to win, “I believe that one of our next generation of Republican leaders … may well emerge as being better able to defeat the Democrat nominee. In fact, I expect and hope that to be the case.” In fact, while Romney led in the polls, it was largely due to name recognition. There was much angst in conservative ranks about a third run.
